How to prepare furniture for shipping
Your shipping company should give you advice on preparing your furniture for shipping. While you should always follow your shipping company’s instructions on packaging your furniture, there are a few things that you can do to make sure your furniture arrives undamaged.
Supplies you will need:
- Disassembly tools (screwdrivers, wrench, etc.)
- Plastic bags
- Cardboard boxes
- Masking or packing tape
- Blank newsprint
Tips for preparing your furniture for shipping
- Disassemble the piece of furniture as much as possible
- Clean our drawers and remove them
- Remove furniture legs and wrap each in blank newsprint. You can then tape the legs to the piece or pack in a separate box.
- Remove hardware and place in a labeled, plastic bag. Tape this bag to the piece of furniture.
- Protect corners by wrapping in bubble wrap and covering with the corners cut from cardboard boxes.
- Wrap pieces (especially upholstered furniture) in furniture pads
- Pack any removable cushions or pillows separately
