uShip Joins Military Makeover to Support Service Members and Families

When it comes to serving those who serve, every effort matters, whether on the battlefield, at home, or in the everyday transitions of military life. That’s why uShip is proud to be featured in Season 43, Episode 2 of Military Makeover with Montel®, airing on August 29, 2025.

This award-winning series, led by talk show legend and proud veteran Montel Williams, is dedicated to giving back to service members and their families through home transformations and acts of generosity. Recognized as the 2024 CBS Family Film and TV Award Winner for ‘Outstanding Reality Show,’ the program enlists designers, contractors, and community partners who come together to make a lasting difference for military families across the country.

For us at uShip, this feature represents more than a television moment: it reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the military community through meaningful work, practical solutions, and heartfelt partnerships.

About Military Makeover with Montel®

Military life comes with unique challenges: frequent relocations, deployments, and the emotional toll of service. Military Makeover with Montel® brings relief, hope, and gratitude by rallying communities and professionals around deserving families.

Each season, the show selects a military family and provides a complete home transformation, turning everyday living spaces into sanctuaries of comfort and pride. But beyond home design, the series highlights the countless ways businesses and individuals can show up for military families, recognizing the sacrifices made both on the front lines and at home.

Honoring the Reeves Family

This season of Military Makeover highlights the incredible journey of U.S. Marine Corps veteran Sean Reeves and his family. Motivated by the events of September 11, Sean enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school and served as an infantry rifleman with the First Battalion, Second Marines. In 2010, during a deployment to Afghanistan, he sustained life-altering injuries from an IED attack and ambush, including a traumatic brain injury and gunshot wounds, yet continued to serve until his medical retirement in 2011. His bravery has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Purple Heart and Combat Action Ribbon.

Today, Sean channels his resilience into helping others as a Care Coordinator at Veterans Bridge Home, where he supports veterans and their families through challenging transitions. Despite ongoing health struggles, including PTSD and chronic pain, he remains a dedicated advocate for his fellow service members.

Sean shares his life with his partner, Marilyn Cecilia Williams, a junior programmer and creative spirit whose warmth, resilience, and love of gardening, animals, and the arts help ground their family. Together, they embody perseverance, love, and service—making them a deeply deserving recipient of this season’s home makeover.

uShip’s Role in Season 43

A behind the scenes look at uShip featured on Military Makeover with Montel

For this season’s featured family, uShip had the honor of transporting a treasured family heirloom. It wasn’t just another shipment—it was a meaningful piece of the family’s story. When it came time to move such an irreplaceable item, we turned to what we do best: connecting people with trusted, independent carriers who go the extra mile.

Representing uShip on screen was Joe Hafkey, our Director of Client & Carrier Success, who shared how our platform makes it possible for carriers and families to connect in powerful, personal ways.

Even more inspiring were the two carriers who carried out the move: Nico and Mike from Time Logistical Services. These brothers, who work alongside their mother, Caterina, bring not only professional expertise but also their own military backgrounds to their work. With Nico’s and Mike’s service history—ranging from nuclear testing to combat in Afghanistan and Coast Guard safety operations for SpaceX launches—their connection to the Reeves family’s journey was particularly meaningful.

By matching the Reeves family with trusted carriers who also share a bond of service, uShip helped ensure that this special piece of their history was transported with the care and respect it deserved.

Why This Matters

For military families, moving is more than logistics: it’s a way of life. According to the Department of Defense, the average military family relocates every 2–3 years, often across great distances. That means uprooting households, vehicles, and cherished belongings over and over again.

Traditional moving methods don’t always meet these needs. That’s where uShip comes in.

  • We’ve empowered over 38,000 independent carriers (many of them veterans or family-owned haulers) to grow their businesses through flexible, reliable shipping opportunities.
  • To date, more than 100,000 shipments have been listed to or from military bases and addresses on uShip.
  • Around 1,000 carriers on our platform are self-identified veterans, making them uniquely attuned to the needs and experiences of military families.

This deep connection means that when a military family uses uShip, they’re not just booking a shipment—they’re often working with someone who understands their journey firsthand.

Supporting Military Families Every Step of the Way

Whether a full PCS household move, a motorcycle, a vehicle, or a single meaningful item, uShip is designed to simplify the process. Military families rely on us because we offer:

  • Flexibility: Choose carriers that fit your schedule and budget.
  • Reliability: Read reviews, compare options, and book with confidence.
  • Trust: Our platform prioritizes safety and communication, ensuring peace of mind for every move.

We understand that shipments often involve items that hold stories, memories, and connections to loved ones for military families. Our carriers don’t just move objects—they move lives forward.

A Shared Mission of Service

Being part of Military Makeover is an extension of the mission we hold close at uShip: to support people during life’s biggest transitions.

Like the show itself, we believe in enlisting a community of professionals who are willing to go above and beyond for those who’ve given so much. It’s a privilege to stand alongside Montel Williams and the incredible team behind Military Makeover, and it’s even more meaningful to see our carriers (especially those with military service) step into the spotlight for the difference they make.
