Ebullient in personality, Alison Galvan’s “Chubby Art” is a reflection of the artist’s lighthearted approach to zestful living. Graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris Alison chooses as her subjects, “everyday humanity in all it’s ridiculous glory”, casting her characters in narrative vignettes that strip away all affectations, and tell stories of imperfect heroes with whimsy and comedic charm. Frequently prone to bouts of infectious laughter, Alison revels in poking fun at the deep and heavy esoteric and pretentious nature of the creative world and, utilizing a paper and gypsum composite sculpted with infinite textural possibilities, she melds the connection between herself, the narrative and the audience by creating bright bold 3 dimensional bas-relief acrylics that even the most staunchly snooty of the upper crust can’t help but crack a smile over.
