Good day, I was shipping an older (1982) PE 175 off-road motorcycle from Nevada to Washington State. The transporter maintained good communication along the route. He actually made time getting to Washington, but when he arrived it was on Sunday and in the details that were provided when the bid went out it was clear that this storage yard was not open on Sunday. So he wanted to find an alternate location nearby to drop off the bike. To make a long story short he drove to a different nearby town, obtained a small storage locker, I suppose this was the best available at the time, but then had to take the front wheel off of the bike and in the process accidently broke the clutch lever. Says he will mail a new clutch lever for the bike to my address, we'll see if that happens. In the future I would think that it would be most important to drop off the item to the pre-arranged location stated in the U-Ship contract, if for nothing else to protect him (the shipper) if the item were to be stolen or vandalized if it is to be stored in a different town from what the contract had stated. A conversation with the owner on the phone to change the drop off location is OK but he should look out for himself and ensure that the item is dropped off at the location per the U-Ship contract to protect himself. I wouldn't do this again with this shipper unfortunately.
