Overall my experience with USHIP was a positive one.
THE GOOD: USHIP system does a good job at connecting shippers with transporters. The grading system seems fair and balanced. Good experience has a positive impact on a transporter's image while bad experience has an adverse experience on a transporter's business. I've always said, "sunshine is the best disinfectant".
OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPROVEMENT: Often times the USHIP website hangs up and becomes difficult to navigate. I believe that USHIP takes too much of the transporter's profit (largely the deposit that is require by the shipper). This amount coupled with the fees that the shipper has to pay is excessive for the little service provided by USHIP and should be reduced. Further, some independant transporters advertise full coverage insurance on the cargo being shipped. In many cases I have found this to be untrue. Many of the shippers simply have personal insurance on their vehicle and if anything extends to what is being shipped it is their liability coverage which is not comprehensive coverage and will likely not cover damage to cargo. Also, since this is simply personal insurance coverage on their vehicle, if an accident occurs and the insurance company finds out the shipment is for hire - any claims will be denied. USHIP should do a better job of fleshing this out for the client rather than allowing a simple posting of coverage by the transporter and the shipper having to figure this out.
Finally, my service provider (Todd & Cheryl with toddwr007) was fantastic to work with. They were very conscientious and careful with my shipment. They picked up and delivered on time and in a quality way. I would do business with them again.
