Purchased a few Jet Skis in FL (10 year old trailer) -- was having them towed up to IL -- shipper called b/c a wheel bearing was bad on a Sunday -- I called a local towing number, and directed me to an even closer tow service -- I called him and knew of a nearby repair shop, so had them dropped there and had the original shipper just go on without them. Talked w/ the mechanic the next week, and I had him just replace the whole axle, both bearings, hubs, wheels, tires -- everything.
I then relisted it on Uship and the rest of the voyage was incident free. Cost a few hundred to get it fixed and a few hundred more to finish out the shipment but no big deal.
The lesson is to maybe pay a little more to have things shipped on a flatbed when you aren't confident in the previous owners maintenance, but even if you have something shipped on it's own wheels and there is an issue, it really isn't a big deal to resolve with mechanics and shippers everywhere!
