I figured I would give UShip a try, I would take into consideration that every person offering a service on here will offer a different classification of service and every person shipping / receiving an item will expect a different class of service.
I was very forgiving with problems I had with my shipper, they quote p/u within a few days, but after NUEROUS failed pickup attempts I was beyond irritated. At that point, the shipping co. finally took something other than their bottom line into consideration and actually got somebody to pick up my ATV. From THAT point on, I was happy(er) with my UShip experience. The shipper didn't even look into the P/U or D/O location before bidding, I asked for door to door service, they then charged more for Pallet service, more for delivery from port to North Pole AK AND wanted to charge more for the distance to P/U the ATV due to distance from terminal (which they should have researched prior to bidding!!!). They did ship the unquoted ATV plow, but only after I insisted due to raising the price nearly $400. Shipper never actually touched my ATV, the person (Jonathan Harder from Harder's Moving in Austin Tx) is the sole person who made this move happen. He performed the pallet work, P/U from my parents and delivery to the Terminal. To his credit is what I attribute this successful shipping service, yet he was not associated with UShip at all, just hired via Craigs List from 123Shipmaster to do all the work.
As far as the amount of money I saved, I found numerous companies that quoted $500-700 in the lower 48, Pacific freight service is about $250-300 so with the price increase the shipper charged me, I probably paid more than the fair service price. I was quoted at $1200 and ended up having to pay nearly $1700 to get my ATV delivered. Now that I have a better understanding of how this works, I'd be better off doing this on my own, in this instance, I was in AK and my parents are too old to do pallet work in Tx.
