I have never shipped anything bigger than a 30 lbs box via the mainstream parcel services. This time I had to ship 700 lbs worth of boxes of household stuff, plus a heavy bed. Moving companies I contacted outside uShip gave me various quotes starting at $1,500. They all had a 2,000 lbs minimum, meaning that I had to to pay too much to move too little. To get it right, I needed an LTL freight service, but I found it challenging to arrange it myself (where does one get a pallet, for example, and what if I don't know the weight of my shipment?). Using uShip was easy for a novice, and the service provider I found here estimated the weight, quoted the price and described the process in detail. The ratings and reviews of the service providers are very helpful for the peace of mind. The transaction and the shipment went smoothly and on schedule. What I paid was at least $600 less than a full-service moving company.
