I found a furnace that was described as being the size and type suitable for my mother's house for sale on eBay. I wondered how to get it approximately 200 miles down the road to where we live, before I learned that something called uShip lets you accept bids for moving jobs big or small: you can look over competitive bids and compare levels of service. The individual who accepted my job managed to drag the boiler out of what he said was a very tight spot in a basement, and then hoist it up onto his trailer. The eBay seller had told both us that it would take at least four men to shift the steam boiler unit (I've talked with contractors who estimated it weighs 1,000+ pounds). After he had the bid, u-Ship's guy built and attached a homemade crane device (with chain and swinging arm) to his trailer so he could unload the shipment slowly and safely. He told me that four men were out of the question; they would never have budged it. Good deal all around, I'd say, dealing with uShip.
