I bought a boat 850 miles away from where I live. I calculated the anticipated costs of travelling to it in order to pick it up and bring it back (gas, wear and tear on vehicle, food, lodging), and then discovered uShip. I placed an ad, fulling anticipating and planning to be making the trip on my own. I was immediately shocked to see how quickly responses started to come in, and the cost associated with them. Bids ranged in price and type of shipping (from hauling it on a flatbed trailer to pulling it with a pickup). At first I still had a high level of skepticism, but as more bids came in and I looked at the feedback and shipper profiles, I quickly decided that this website and process had more merit, and that it could be possible that I might not be making the trip on my own. It was easy to review bid offers, and more importantly, ask the shippers questions regarding their bids and my timeframes, as long as I observed the rules not to exchange any contact information outside of the system. Just less that a week before my scheduled pick up date, I decided on a shipper that had 50+ reviews, all positive, and a very fair shipping price. When reviewing his bid, I felt confident that he could be trusted with my valuable shipment, that he was a proactive communicator, and that he would tend to the needs of me and my cargo as his trip progressed. He was able to work within my timeframes, and accomodate my requests to review the cargo and provide me with feedback prior to starting the trip. During the trip he gave me timely feedback on his progress, the conidtions he was faced with (weather, traffic, detours), and made it easy for me to anticipate an exact time of arrival so that I was not waiting unproductively. Upon delivery he remained professional and accomodating, and even helped me understand some maintenance items that he had learned through his experiences. I don't ship a lot of things, but I WILL use uShip again if needed, and recommend it highly!!!!
