Venus had been in a shelter in IN for more than 6 months when her owner had dumped her because she "didn't hunt fast enough" for him.
I am a volunteer for NJ German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue and we had an approved adopter waiting for nearly 6 months to find the right match, but their paths never crossed.
When someone alerted me to Venus, I knew just who to call. When I told Daniella we had a dog for her, she was thrilled....only one problem...how to get the little girl from Attica, IN to NYC. Daniella doesn't have a car, all our volunteers live in NJ. A super nice girl at the shelter in IN offered to drive her 8 hours out to PA, which was more than 1/2 way.
Great..that should be easy to get her from PA to NY. Or so I thought. After 2 weeks of trying to find help, we still had no luck filling the middle legs of a transport for this girl and it wasn't looking like she would get to her new forever home.
We were stuck as the delivery time was not negotiable because Erica was being deployed to Kuwait, so this had to be done this weekend! I've used uship 1 time before to ship another rescue dog (also a great experience) and gave it a shot, but wasn't hopeful given the non-flexible time frame. To my surprise, I posted my dilemma on Tuesday and had the whole thing arranged Wednesday.
So far, both transports I used were great and U-ship saved the day! I will continue to use uship for our rescue dogs and hopefully the same shippers again!
