I moved cross-country about 18 months ago, from CT to AZ. I "expected" to sell my old Chris Craft cabin cruiser which remained in CT, assuming that I would not need a 26 foot cabinc ruiser in the desert. As everyone knows, the current economy helped make it impossible to sell this old boat as I expected. In the meantime, I was paying to store the boat at my former marina in CT. Over the past couple of months I began to explore the idea that I could use the boat here in AZ. I did some research, and found that boat slips were readily available in nearby Bartlett Lake. I also found out that my dock fees would be only slightly more than I was currently paying to store my boat in CT. Finally and most importantly, I was able to convince my wife to allow me to have the boat brought out here for our use and enjoyment.
I did some research online with nationally recognized marine shippers, and found that nearly all of the "quotes" to move my boat some 2,510 miles were not only high, but some exceeded the actual value of my old Chris Craft. Finally, I found USHIP shipping and registered. Within 24 hours of registering, I received a bid for a very reasonable price. I contacted the shipper, based out of Florida, and read several positive reviews on his web site. Finally, we set the deal in motion and about 2 weeks later, my boat began its cross country trek. My boat arrived on the day and time anticipated, to a marine service center in Phoenix. I met the driver when he arrived and shortly afterwards, I was working on my old boat again. I anticipate after some tuneup and other work, that I will be in the water in about 10 days. The day they put my boat in the water, I will take some pictures and send them to the shipper, to show him that it was all worth the effort.
Thank you USHIP and Caj and driver Todd for all your work.
