After contacting the "brand" shippers I learned quickly that there must be another way! I was to ship a couple of pieces of antique furniture to a family member about 1000 miles away. I learned about uShip on the internet. Of course I was a little skeptical because it was a new process with people that I didn't know. I was impressed with the uShip website and believed that it was all on the up and up so I went ahead and began the process.
I was impressed with the customer service of some of the carriers. Many providing quick response and the bidding process was very competitive which works to the customer's advantage. Since I packed the shipment myself and contracted with a tremendous carrier (Howardtm)I saved about $225! And, I didn't have to wrestle my containers down to the truck terminal - Howard picked up and delivered the boxes himself, no hassle.
Finally, uShip, unlike the brand carriers who utilize transfer terminals which increase the likelihood of damage because of multiple handling of the packages, reduced the chance for damage. And, I was right, the two boxes of antique furniture were delivered expeditiously in pristine condition with no problems.
I will definitley use uShip again and I would recommend their service to any "newbies" out there who have concerns about this type of shipping service. The entire experience was excellent.
