I recently purchased a sailboat, sight unseen, In CO and needed it shipped to Mesa AZ. It is a trailerable sail boat weighing in at 5000 lbs and 26 ft....a lot to move.
My origianl plan was to wait until the weekend, drive the 14 hours to Denver pick up the boat and back home. Being it was Mothers Day weekend that plan was going to have some problems...but I wanted the boat.
I have used USHIP once before to ship a motorcycle but was not sure about towing service for a boat, much less one this size.
So I posted an ad on USHIP. Within 30 minutes I had a response. A driver was leaving Denver that day and coming to Phoenix and could tow the boat home. I was surprised at the quick response and more so that I could have the boat the next day. I accepted the bid and made arrangements to hacve the boat picked up.
I was told the boat was "road ready and all it needed was a shot of grease and possibly a tie down... not the case.
One tire was flat. the mast was not position for towing, rudder was jammed on the ground and the running lights did not work.
I fully expected the driver to say good luck and come on home. Instead replaced the tail ights, repositioned the mast and rudder, aired-upped the tires, not only shot the bearing with grease but went and bought marine grease and actually pulled the tires off to check the bearings. All while keeping me informed.
The boat was deliverd to my business by 3:00 the next day. I was fully expecting a substantail charge for the additional service instead I got a bill, with receipts, only for the parts he had to purchase, nothing for his additional time and efforts.
Bottom line, I got my boat, received the best customer service I have experienced in many years and most importantly mama is happy as we will all be together for mothers day...out on the lake...of course.
Thank you USHIP and an exceptional driver.
