I was shipping my recently deceased husband's family heirlooms to his sister 750 miles away. There was some old furniture, china and silver and other odds and ends like a chain saw and a very heavy pig oiler. Since it was only a partial load I was looking for an way of getting the goods from Pennsylvania to the Chicago area both economically and expeditiously.
When I went on-line to look for a mover, up popped uShip. I'd never heard of it but it looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a try. It was terrific! I love the way I could post my request and almost immediately started recieving bids for the job. There was quite a variety from which to choose from a guy with a pick-up truck for a really cheap price (uh-uh) to a motorcycle mover (great photos of his two-tiered cycle moving van) and number of small, licensed movers which was just what I had in mind.
Being able to check out the movers licenses, insurance, history, see photos, read the story of the company was invaluable. The entire process saved me hours of searching thru the phone book, asking friends for recommendations etc. I had bids ranging from $300 - $1090. I ultimately choose one that cost $450. Had I gone with a big commercial mover it would have cost at least 3x that amount.
And, actually, it was exciting. I enjoyed getting notified of a new bid, checking it out and communicating with the bidder. It was a search with a happy ending. John Z., the mover was very easy to deal with. He did have some truck problems getting here but once they arrived they were professional, courteous and good guys. There they were at 6:15 AM in front of my house waiting for the ETA of 7:00 AM. They had the equipment they had promised, had me check their work and hit the road, arriving the next day while communicating with the drop-off family.
I have told ALL my friends about uShip. It is a great business concept really well executed, easy to use, cost-effective, fun. I'd use it again.
