I work for DHS and am ALWAYS on the road. I decided to bring my bike down to Austin, where I am currently deployed (and will be for about a year). I really wanted to be able to enjoy my machine, rather than leave it up in the mountains of North Carolina where I live. I browsed the internet looking for transport. Some of my cowrkers who have bikes do the same thing. I finally settled for Jim Carter through u-ship because of the enclosed trailer for transport. The low cost of the service didn't hurt either. But, cost wasn't the deciding factor. We came up with a two week window for the pick-up, and an open ended timeframe for drop-off. Jim and his co-driver made it up the mountain and picked up the bike with very good timing. I witnessed the loading and securing of the bike and was very pleased with the pick up. I sympathize with the guys going back down the Blue Ridge Mountains. With his dualie and long trailer, he had to gear down to granny and ride the brakes for several miles. As the customer, I would have liked to heard from him more often than I did. But, I understand that, as transport drivers, they are more focused on their route and scheules than they are 'touching base' with the clients. Drivers definately live in a different world. We must understand and respect that. I was very anxious to recieve my Boulevard. When Jim called and said that I would recieve my baby at about 8p.m., I was thrilled. AS the day waned on, and I kept getting news of delays, I was disappointed. The bike finally arrived at about 1 a.m. It was cold and drizzly. The battery was dead from the switch being left on. We tried to jump it off, to no avail. We pushed it into the garage. When Jim found out, he was extremely appologetic and offered to compensate me for any inconvenience. Later, I got the bike started and there were no problems. Overall, I'm satisfied with the service, and will be using Jim's service again. That's a tough business, and he does very well.
