I bought a sailboat in Oregon, and needed to ship it to Utah. The major boat carriers were quoting prices in the $1,500 range. I used uShip’s shipping price estimator to find comparable shipments, including two boats that were very similar to mine and that had been shipped similar distances in the same part of the country. I included a photo and detailed description of my boat, set a fair asking price based on those comparables and within about a day I had three companies competing for my shipment. I went with a small company that specializes in trailering boats. The price was $750, half my original quotes. The shipper kept me informed at all stages - when he picked up my boat, during shipping, and as he came into town. I knew that he had another shipment to pick up a couple of hours after dropping off my boat, and I asked him for a favor. My boat needed to be registered in person (requiring an inspection of the hull number), and the DMV was almost closed for the weekend. My shipper actually took the boat to the DMV, met me there, and waited while it was inspected and registered before delivering it to my boatyard. That is great customer service, and it made it possible for me to go sailing that weekend. In exchange, I bought him a meal, we swapped sailing stories, and I helped him load up his next boat. Not only did uShip save me money, it was fun too!
