It has been a # of years since my father passed away from cancer. However, before he was plagued with intense hospital visits, surgeries & long extended treatments, he was determined to fulfill every dream & adventurous urge that he had postponed previously in his life. One of those "urges" was to get a motorcycle. If you knew my dad, you'd know, everything he touched was special. It couldn't be just any used bike. It had to be impeccable and classy. Due to his enormous medical bills, & the fact that he always remained a child (thus blowing his $ on "classy" items, etc), he could only afford a very nice, gently used 1986 BMW R65 motorcycle–but man he loved that bike! After he passed away, the bike traveled through the lives of several men in the family, all with a special nostalgia for vintage motorcycles. However, it never dawned on anyone that I, the "princess" & "daddy's girl" would ever want the bike. Thus, this final time that my brother was about to sell the bike out of the family, he notified the rest of us to see if anyone objected. I blurted out "It's my turn, dammit!" And thus, I inherited it, once & for all. As it turns out, however, the bike was in MN and I live in CO. Most professional shippers charge anywhere from $800 to over $1000 for a motorcycle. I was very discouraged because I too have had to deal with many medical expenses, due to my husband having been diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. I was afraid I was never gonna get the bike out here. Then, things turned around. My husband had his surgery and is now completely brain tumor free. Then, via USHIP, a young man w/ all the necessary equipment to ship my bike out to CO w/ care & protection, was able to transport it for less than 1/2 of what the rest were going to charge. Now, I have my father's bike; I'm learning to ride it and my husband is cancer & brain tumor free (for over 12 months)! The real cherry on top is: we can enjoy our beautiful CO/mountain summer in style! Thanks USHIP! ~ Mara
