"Buying and shipping a boat from you desk 200 mile away"
shipping from Leesburg, Florida Fort Lauderdale, Florida for $350.00
Given all the variables this process went very smoothly. I live in Barbados (the Caribbean) and I wanted a small boat to use at our vacation home in the Bahamas.
I sent a great deal of time online researching boat models and dealer locations.
My big problem was that I don’t have any friends in the US who I could rely on to make the purchase or transport the boat for me. I’d have to accomplish the entire process via internet and telephone.
I had to find an international shipper who would ship the boat to the Bahamas. I also had to find a boat dealer who was located close to the shipper and who was willing to deliver the boat for me.
After a lot of computer time, I managed to find both a dealer and shipper in close proximity. So I whipped out the credit card and managed to purchase my dreamboat online. I was pretty satisfied with myself till the next day when I goat an email stating that the boat was out of stock and discontinued. I was gutted.
More internet research indicated that there was only one place in Florida that still had preferred model in stock. Unfortunately it was 250 miles away from my shipper. I figured all was lost; the shipper wasn’t willing to travel that far and all the estimates I got for moving the boat were way to high.
That’s when I luckily stumbled across uship, what a novel concept; it might still be possible to move my boat economically. Well I registered and within 5 min had two bids … wow.
The rest is now history, I picked a bid and my boat is safely in the hands of my international shipper. Considering I haven’t met any of the people involved in this transaction it’s pretty amazing that I was able to pull this off all from my desk in Barbados.
