Velvet the Wonder Horse is a 33 year old Appaloosa-Quarter horse. She is small by horse standards but what she lacks in height she makes up for in stamina. Velvet & I grew up together. I got her when I was 13 & she was a green broke 3 year old. What we lacked in knowledge we made up for in determination & love. Together we learned who was going to be boss as she told me when & where she wanted to eat & showed me her favorite places & told me when she wanted to walk, trot, run full blown; usually straight back to the barn. I learned how to hold on with all my might as she jumped puddles & tried to knock me off with tree branches. So when my husband got a job in NC & we had to transfer from MI the question wasn't WILL Velvet be going with us but HOW? With 2dogs, 2cats & 2kids in tow we knew it was only a matter of time before we had to get Velvet down here as well. I talked to horse people, vets, farmers, haulers you name it. We even looked into buying a trailer at one point in time & transporting her ourselves. Even though I have had her for over 30 yrs I still didn't know anything about towing a horse, especially that distance. So when I found UShip on line I thought I'd give it a try. Within just a couple of days I had 3 different people willing to transport Velvet all within our price range. We chose Billy from Equine Enterprises because he said he would take good care of her and make sure she stayed on her special diet. When I looked at the pictures of his rig on line & read the feedback I was sold. It took her almost 24 hours to get from MI to NC. It was around 9:30pm when she arrived & it was very surreal as the diesel came a chuggin' around the corner & the trailer lights a blazin'. When the trailer came to a stop Velvet's window was opened & her head popped out when she heard our voices. She just started whinnying & prancing & nearly jumped off the trailer to see us. Not a day goes by now when we DON'T talk about Billy & the Wonder Horses Great Adventure!
