I got a job in LA, but I lived in Boston. I also own a lot of stuff, but only a Jetta to carry it in.
I found uShip, posted a few extremely large and heavy boxes, gave a target price, and went to bed not expecting too much. I woke up to e-mails from shippers all over the country clamoring to move my things for me cheaper than the other guy, and ended up with a price around half what I had projected.
In almost no time at all, I received an invoice from paypal and a visit from a shipping truck. The boxes got to Cali before I did, and I saved enough money to pay for gas most of the trip.
uShip is an undiscovered killer app of the internet, up there with the likes of eBay, Craigslist, and Sidestep, and will continue to be my first stop when shipping.
