I'd dreamed of having a particular historic style of automotive dealer sign for many years for my 8-car garage. The sign is over 12 ft long and weighs about 150lbs. I finally located one on Craigslist, in central Wisconsin. But my garage is in Seattle. Renting a truck would have cost a fortune, but a local truck rental outfit suggested trying a web-based site called uship to have it shipped for a very low price. The fellow with the sign also independently had suggested trying this uship place.
The site was quite self explanatory, and it even had a search for winning bids for similar items to give me an idea on prices. They seemed lower than what had been told to expect. I did a sort of trial posting, not specifying price, where I got the gamut of bids from experienced and very expensive to somewhat cheap but with spotty driving records. I let that expire and did a much more specific posting, with a reasonable "buy now" price as well. That got immediate results from shippers that seemed almost too good to be true, with stellar shipping records. Yet the price was lower than ANY of the other bids I had previously gotten, less than half of the highest one.
By coincidence, the shipper I chose had once been a mechanic for the car company whose sign he was transporting! He treated it with great care, almost reverence, hauling it in a weatherproof 24 ft trailer. He was transporting it with other shipments that included furniture and a red Pontiac! The experience was totally delightful in every way.
I would absolutely recommend uship again, as did the truck rental company and the sign-seller in Wisconsin for me.
