Buying a motorcycle from someone in another state and needing it shipped to you? It all starts here – get this wrong and you’ll have a “house of horrors” scenario on your hands. Get it right and your bike owning experience can get started on the right foot.
I located my dream bike, a trike actually in California- the only problem was I live in Alabama. Unsure how I was going to get the bike to Alabama I was hesitant to purchase it. Not having experience with motorcycle shipping I considered flying out to California and riding the bike home. After factoring in the time lost from work, the price of gasoline and the potential problems with weather I decided to search the web for a shipper. I received several quotes from ‘traditional’ shippers most of the quotes were outrageous and the companies’ required a lot of paperwork. Then I found USHIP, I liked the fact that I could contact multiple shippers with just one post rather than spend countless hours on the phone. Even after I accepted a bid and my motorcycle was scheduled for pickup I was still very nervous this was my dream bike and I was placing it in the hands of strangers. My worries were unfounded, my service provider “Paposteve” arrived in a properly equipped and enclosed fifth-wheel trailer, the seller supervised the loading of my bike and assured me that Paposteve's equipment was top notch. The trailer had a solid smooth floor, a large ramp for loading, multiple tie down points for the straps and the front tire secured in a wheel-chock. I first saw my trike in person (8 days later) when it arrived in Alabama. It was a beautiful sight.
One thing I would recommend, try to remain flexible in your pickup and delivery dates, keep in touch with your service provider on a continuous basis so you know things are progressing and try to relax. Paposteve knew exactly what to do and how to go about it he collected the bike on time, and he delivered safely – during which time he cared for it professionally.
