Could have kicked myself when I changed my mind and said _I WILL_ take care of shipping an engine I had for sale.
There was limited time as I was losing my storage space and I was not able to be there in person until the day before pickup.
Somehow, I came across the uship website and decided to give it a try. Could not believe the price that was bid! Much less than other carriers (including LTL brokers) had quoted me directly.
The only thing they unfortunately could not provide was crating the engine. By measuring thrice and cutting once I had all the pieces of wood cut to build a crate and secure the engine to my home-made pallet.
Because of my crating schedule, I made a couple of phone calls and they agreed the carrier would p/u Wed. after 1600 at my residence. Turns out they came a day early expecting to p/u the engine. OMG! This is going to be a disaster! Then, while I was out getting the engine hoist Wed. morning, they stopped again! I called back AGAIN and the Manager contacted the local carrier to have them return again after 1600. Unreal. The whole time they had my cell phone number on the Bill of Lading, but did not call until Wed. afternoon. What a waste of diesel.
Whew! I finished up screwing the crate together at 1530 Wed. It was on the truck by 1630.
I had a lot of luck, but in the end everything worked out.
