In an attempt to manage the material costs of building two new decks, I was able to acquire premium materials at wholesale cost. Only problem was the vendor was in Athens and the job site was in Marietta. When you are dealing with assorted sizes of pressure treated lumber in less than palletized load sizes, finding a carrier can be a challenge to say the least.
After much searching, using yellow pages, inquiries to friends, even considering renting a large box van and hand loading and unloading it myself, I "Googled" several topics such as transportation, shipping, hauling, etc. I don't recall which query showed the uShip webiste, but I saw that it was basically an online shipping broker and decided to give it a shot. I only had two days before I had to get the materials to the site, so I figured my chances of finding someone where somewhere between slim and none. Lo and behold not even 24 hours had passed and a serice provider, A Class Solutions, responded with a bid that was very reasonable and within the compressed time frame I was dealing with. Using uShip's fairly intuitive interfaces, we traded a couple of dialogues and sealed the deal a couple of hours later. At the end of it all, the process was fairly easy for an admitted less than technologically savvy user, the service provider exceeded all of my expectations and the materials were on site for the builder.
I would recommend using uShip based on my experience and am looking forward to receiving my rebate as a first-time user. I would also highly recommend A Class Solutions to anyone. Glenn, the owner is just an all-around good guy who knows how to deliver, pun intended.
As for the deck builder, that's another story for another day.
