I had two 1/6 scale all metal radio controlled models to ship from Kingston NY to Painesville, OH. One model is of a WWII German Panther tank and the other is a WWII German 8 ton halftrack. I have shipped similar models before using UPS and Fedex Freight but have had dissappointing results due to damage in shipment. These models are very heavy. The Panther weighs close to 300 pounds and is 4+ feet long by 2 feet wide by 18 inches tall. I had to find a way to move these models the 450+ miles without damage and I was unable to make the roundtrip myself. I also wanted to save the expense of having the seller build plywood crates for the models. Jason Whitmore (Zooman 33) agreed to pick up the models and haul them in the back of his Suburban for $300.00. The major national freight carriers would have charged much more and would have required crating. Moving them this way saved the need to build crates and gave me the piece of mind that they would arrive undamaged. Jason picked up the models on a Friday morning and delivered them to me that evening. Everything arrived in pristine condition and Jason helped me unload them and set them in my shop on the workbench. This was the first time i was able to ship a model with no damage to it. I would definetly hire Jason again and use the Uship service. I think Uship is a great way to find carriers who will provide the specialized type of service I need without the restrictions, high cost, and lack of customer service which, In my opinion, is typical of the major national frieght companies. Using Uship saved me having to take two days out of my busy schedule and make a 900 mile roundtrip to get them moved. The price was definetly worthwhile as my own travel expenses and one night in a hotel would have been more, not to mention the time saved.
Thank you Jason and Thank you UShip. We will definetly be doing business again.
