I've shipped cars before. I even shipped one via FedEx, but nothing compares to this experience. In hindsight, this could only have happened on a site like uShip.com!
I bought a beautiful Cadillac Allante convertible on eBay and needed to transport it from a dealer in Fredericksburg, VA to my home in Miami, FL. This car in Miami sells for $17,500 and the winning bid on eBay was just $5,300.
As soon as I won the auction, I applied to uShip and one other site for bids. I also went directly to one supplier for a quote. The other site immediately generated spam from shippers with no bids. I got 17 auto-junk emails from 6 shippers telling me how hard at work they were on their bids. Ironic, since most actual quotes from this source appeared the same day that the uBid transporter delivered my car! The first bid I received from that source was a quote from the one firm that had already sent me a direct quote. The bid through the other site was more than double the original direct quote!
uShip was different. Serious shippers asked questions and came up with real numbers right away. Best of all, a transporter (Moving Autos) was already in Virginia on its way back to Florida and had one more space on its truck. This was a win/win if ever there was one. Because the driver was just a few miles from the pickup location and could see the uBid listing in real time, he made the pickup within a few hours and delivered just 48 hours after that! For the driver, it was found money. And I got my car in 3 days instead of 3 weeks with Moving Autos!
I also got great service from a thoughtful Moving Autos driver, Ken, who called throughout his journey to let me know how things were going. He really went beyond the call of duty through the actual delivery.
I had three MUCH higher bids and three lower bids. If I had chosen to wait 3 more weeks, I could have saved $110 with the lowest bid. Hardly worth it. At just $560, Moving Autos, and uShip were the perfect combination.
