I shipped a Forester from Philadelphia PA to Calumet, MI. Calumet is far away from any major city. The quotes I received ranged from $600 to $1,250. We settled for one in the middle. Most of the quotes were automated and based on mileage alone and included door to door service.
The funny thing was the low bid. I emailed them and explained where we were and if they could really deliver for that price. The broker thanked me and said there was no way he could find someone to go to the U.P. for that price. What was funny was the automated email I got from him the next day asking if I still wanted to use their service.
When we did select a service they said they could pick the car up the next day, which made the seller very happy. After the car was picked up I was disappointed to find that I would have to take a day off work to meet a truck 4.5 hours away (9 hour total drive) in Green Bay in order to get the car in a reasonable amount of time. I didn't find out that the car wasn't going to make it here within terms until it had already been picked up. So I felt I was stuck. (Having a teenage girl waiting for her car didn't help much either.
So, I would caution all Uship users to ensure your shipper knows where you are if you are in an off the beaten path location and will meet the terms stated in the quote.
