As lucky inhabitants of the best city in the U.S., uShippers take great pride in the lively, vibrant oasis that is Austin, Texas. Whether we\u2019re patronizing one of the quirky dive bars, legendary live music venues, or soaking up the bluest skies around on our greenbelt, we Austinites love our city.<\/p>\n
At uShip, we\u2019re especially lucky to have an office planted smack dab between the beautiful Lady Bird Lake, a lush greenbelt and creek, and the action of downtown \u2013 an area we’ve affectionately coined “The Riverhood.” To show our appreciation for the beautiful space around us, we recently took a few hours to get out and clean up our \u2018hood.<\/p>\n
We broke out into small teams to divide and conquer. Some crews were responsible for the dog park up the street, others hit the boardwalk, and several were on creek duty. Armed with grippy gloves, grabber sticks, buckets and bags, we set out to make our neck of the woods a little cleaner.<\/p>\n
Not surprisingly, we found more than a few memorable items. Highlights included:<\/p>\n
A machete
\nSeveral tires
\nA plaster hand
\nA jar of rotting eggs
\nAn impressive number of unique clothing items (how did an Edmonton Eskimos poncho get into the creek?)<\/p>\n
We take our responsibility to serve our community seriously, and feel lucky to have the opportunity give back as a company and as individuals. By day’s end, we\u2019d collected around 50 bags of trash and dedicated 200 service hours to the cleanup effort.<\/p>\n
