Hi Geoffrey would you be able to give an estimate weight of the main body of the kiln if the lid and stand were removed? Sean QSLogistics Report a Violation
Response: The stand won't be very heavy, probably bringing the kiln down to 100Kg. I would guess the lid would be 30% of the total weight so 70Kg the base, 30Kg the lid. However that's a guess - I have not seen this kiln. The lid is connected electrically to the base and I don't know how - my guess will be 4 screwed terminals. I could ask the seller, but she is a glass artist and may not have much technical info. Also note that the heating elements are exposed inside the kiln, so the lid or open base will need a little care.8/24/2014Report a Violation
Response: I understand I am just thinking about the best way to get this in the van as there is only my driver. I will let him see the listing a get back to you. Sean QSLogistics8/24/2014Report a Violation
Response: I cannot really help you about this. I have not seen the kiln and certainly cannot come and help. However, I see you have bid to deliver anyway: I intend to accept the bid but since the kiln is for my wife I will have to ask her first when she returns home.8/24/2014Report a Violation
Response: Hi Geoffrey, I spoke to my driver and he said 90% of the weight is the fire bricks inside which can be taken out of most kilns. Which only leaves the metal box and heating elements. Even if the bricks can not be removed with our equipment he can't see any problems unless it is on the 24 floor with no lift or something like that. Sean QSLogistics8/24/2014Report a Violation
Response: The only possible problem I can see might be that the bricks could become rather fragile after the kiln has been fired, but I have no experience. We can certainly help move the kiln at this end (a tractor with fork lift and builders usually here). I am accepting the offer and look forward to getting the kiln, but there is no hurry. Wait till you have the right man in the right van and he's in the North-East!8/24/2014Report a Violation
