uShip Quick Start Guide for Service Providers Print
Vocabulary:
  • Find Shipments - The tool you use to find shipments you can service.
  • Dashboard - Your personal homepage - view shipments you are watching, have bid on or have booked.
  • Feedback - When you complete a job, the customer can leave feedback for you - the more positive feedback you have, the more attractive your bids will be to potential customers.
  • Bid - Your offer to provide shipping services for a shipment at a specific price. You must place an online bid to book a shipment on uShip.
Before you begin:
  • Register - This should only take a couple minutes - check your email and click on the link provided to complete the final step to activate your account.
  • Complete your profile - This is the "face" of your company that customers will see - tell them about your company (but don't include contact info). This is also where feedback will be displayed once you complete some shipments.
  • Set your communication preferences - Tell us how you'd like to be notified of uShip activity.
How to find a shipment to service:
  1. 1.Go to Find Shipments - http://www.uship.com/find
  2. 2.Filter by category - You can select the shipment category using the filters on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. 3.Search by location - Use the origin and destination searches on the left-hand side of the page to narrow your search by location. You can also view and filter results by expanding the map view at the top of the page.
  4. 4.View results - Your search results will update automatically as you select various filters - you can even save a search to save time and have new and updated results emailed to you daily. Click on the title of a shipment to view more details and decide if you will place a bid.
How to place a bid:
  1. 1.View shipment details - When you select a shipment from Find Shipments, you will see route information and other details such as weight and dimensions.
  2. 2.Ask questions - If there is any other information you need so you can make an accurate bid, click "Ask a Question" on the shipment details page - remember not to include contact info.
  3. 3.Complete the bid form - Scroll down on the shipment details page and provide bid details including price and timeframe.
What happens next?

Once you have placed your bid, it is up to the customer to accept or decline it.

  • If they accept your bid, you will receive their contact information so you can contact them directly and complete the shipment. The customer will pay you directly.
  • If they decline your bid, you can always place a new bid to try to reach an agreement.
Tips for booking your first job:
  • Place a few bids - It usually takes more than one bid to book your first job.
  • Bid a little lower at first - Before you have any feedback, price is your biggest competitive factor. Once you build some feedback, you can charge a premium for your services.
  • Communicate, communicate, communicate - Asking a question can help you clarify details - but it is also an opportunity for a friendly introduction. Think of it as an online handshake.
