The reasons for this are that it helps keep my costs down and allows me to offer a low bid and save you money. Unlike included coverage or additional fee coverage through the larger shipping companies, you are the primary insured party and not the second party. You have direct rights to any claim and can adjust your insured value to what you feel you need. This way you deal direct and it streamlines the process and gives you total control. I am told the plans run $8 per $1,000 declared value. It's easy for some people to claim they have cargo insurance but in reality have only liability insurance which does not cover the cargo.
