Questions for this shipment:

Question: Hi. I'm driving to Anchorage around the first week of December. Is the pallette just a 4'x4'? I will have an eclosed trailer I could put it in. Thanks. (11/5/2007)
Response: yes, it is a standard pallette - 4x4. i am delaying the placement of the actual order until i know for sure it can be delivered. UPS/Fedex/etc all want to charge over $1000, and i cannot afford that. it is simply a pallette of dry grain/food - nothing toxic or hazardous. we cannot buy that stuff in Alaska. if you can do this, let me know as soon as possible so i can be sure the order is ready for delivery - i will have to mail them a money order, so i need to know within a week or so in your case (1st week of Dec). thank you. (11/5/2007)
Response: (11/5/2007)
Response: i was prompted to answer another question, but i do not see a question. (11/5/2007)
Response: Do you know of any resrictions at the border with something like that? Will I have to fill out paperwork or anything? Thanks. (11/5/2007)
Response: i cannot answer this question with 100% knowledge. i can only say that it is no different that carrying your own food supplies to eat while on your travels. so, i cannot imagine that there would be any problem. these days, they might think anything is a "bomb" - they suspect everyone is a "terrorist" :) ask anyone that has taken a airplane flight lately ... i suspect they might want to check things - maybe - but everything will be packaged and labelled and well sealed - so it should be obvious that it is simply food. but i can say this: it isn't necessary to cross any border. from Seattle, you can take a ferry to Anchorage, Alaska, and i think it is cheaper as well - it was when i moved here 13 years ago ($300 for a Chevy van + Chevy Nova). (11/5/2007)
Question: I checked on the fairy and it's looking like it would cost nearly $2000 for my truck and 16' trailer. My buddy took it last year with his truck and it was $1400. I had planned on driving though. I could probably take this for you but I'm thinking $800 shipping charges. Let me know you think. Thanks. (11/7/2007)
Response: i wanted to give you some info: there are several orders that are placed with Walton Feed from Alaska. if you are into this shipping as a business, you will find that Walton Feed will give you a list of customers in Alaska, and you might be able to combine several orders if you travel back-and-forth on a yearly basis. there are many church groups (especially the Mormons, who are required by their teachings to keep a 10 year food supply) that also order from there, and you might be able to find a 'niche' in the shipping business by supplying Alaska with dried foods. Alaska is the 2nd biggest "Mormon" state after Utah. dried foods are something Alaska does't really have, yet it is a big market if it is developed, and Walton Feed in ID has the best prices i have found. (11/9/2007)
Response: Yes, if you can get the weight down it will be cheaper to ship. If it is around 500 - 800 pounds I think it can be done for $500. Let me know what you think you can get it down to. If you know of other Mormons in your community let them know I'm coming up. I can try to pack more in for them if they want it. Thanks. (11/9/2007)
Response: i have removed the grains, so it's approximately 900lbs. to the best of my knowledge, this is your first contract with UShip, and there are no references for your work. is there anything you can provide that would make me feel comfortable trusting you with these goods? thanks. ps. i am not Mormon, but when i talked to the store, they said many 'church groups' order from them, and they gave me some names and numbers - just trying to help you out. (1) P005-Baking Soda-50# bag (2) B070-Salt-Iodized 25# bag (1) L052-Bouillon-Chicken 50 lb bag (1) P001-Fruit-Raisins Select Fresh 30# box (1) L055-Eggs-Egg Mix 50 lb box (1) L054-Cheese-Blend no MSG 50 lb bag (1) L059-Cheese-Cheddar no MSG 50 lb bag (2) L033-Fruit-Apple Slices 15 lb box (3) L035-Fruit-Banana Slices 14 lb box (1) L063-Substitute-Bacon Flavored 25 lb box (1) L066-Substitute-Taco Flavored 25 lb box (9) A051-Meal-ABC Soup 25# bag (3) L013-Meal-Vegetable Stew Blend 30 lb box (4) L012-Vegetable-Tomato-Powder 55 l (11/10/2007)
Question: I appreciate the help trying to get some more shipments for me. I can give you all my contact info if you'd like and names and numbers of places I've worked. You can get to know me per say. I've got ads on craigslist that I'm coming up. I've posted on the Alaska one. You can get my contact info through that if you'd like. Just go to the rideshare and you will find my posting. It's only a week old probably and says I'm driving up from Utah. If it's coming in at 900 lbs I could do it for $600. Let me know. Thanks. (11/12/2007)
Response: thank you for your reply. yes, i would like to know either the address of any property (land) you own, or some legitimate places you have worked - because this order means survival to me. it will be my only means of food for the next few years and i have to take this seriously. i guess if you got in an accident or any other bad event besides theft, the goods should still be mostly recoverable. i will place the order tomorrow (Wednesday/11-14), and ensure the availability, and then it will take a week or so to get a money-order to them for the payment and i will verify your property or references in the meantime. i will continue to update you as you request. i think your offer is fair if the risk is non-existant. i have read mostly good things about UShip drivers, but i have read about some total rip-offs as well. (11/13/2007)
Response: Can you give me what the measurements will be for the 900 lbs? Thanks. (11/14/2007)
Response: i am sorry, but i won't be able to answer this question until Monday. they have been a 1-2 days behind on processing their emails, and i was hoping to get an answer to you today, Friday, but they said it won't be until Monday. they just said they estimate it will be about a 3.5ft high pallette. i will let you know for sure Monday. did you want to answer my questions about private property and/or work references? ok, thanks. (11/16/2007)
Response: I would be happy to give you references for work and friends but I don't want to post it on here. Is there any other way to get them to you? (11/16/2007)
Response: i have this notice here: You will be flagged for including the following: * Email Addresses * Phone Numbers * Other Contact Information * Unsolicitated Legal Advice * Foul Language i guess i need you to put yourself in my position. i am a little uncomfortable entrusting the value of the goods without a history of successful shipments, or without a contract where you lose something of equal value if the shipping is not completed, eg, access to something of yours of similar value, or you pay for the goods, less the shipping costs, yourself. possibly good business references will suffice - but generally, contracts should be set up so everyone can be made whole if any party fails in their obligations. as things are now, i have a lot to lose, and you have little to lose. but as i said, depending on the references, they might be sufficient. Question: Will this be loaded with a fork lift at the pick up and unloaded at the dropoff? Thanks (11/28/2007)
Response: > Will this be loaded with a fork lift at the pick up and unloaded at the dropoff? Thanks i haven't had a chance to call them, but i don't think this is a problem. i will ask them as soon as possible, but it is a bulk dry food warehouse, and they create the pallet, and i am sure they have many forklifts. there is a total of about 25 bags/boxes, and they can be unloaded in my yard readily. i will simply lay down some material on the snow, and just stack things up and deal with them later. (11/29/2007)
Question: (11/29/2007)
Response: i do not see a question here. (11/29/2007)

Question: Hi I have room in my trailer, and I'm leaving Ellensburg, Wa tomorrow. Is there any way you could have it delivered to PostFalls, Id or anywhere in Northern Id? Otherwise I would need quite a bit more money. Thanks, Tim (11/29/2007)
Response: > Hi I have room in my trailer, and I'm leaving Ellensburg, Wa tomorrow. Is there any way you could have it delivered to PostFalls, Id or anywhere in Northern Id? Otherwise I would need quite a bit more money. Thanks, Tim i think it would be cost prohibitive to relay the goods to northern Idaho, and then ship them to Alaska. i am not in a big hurry, so if it might be more convenient in the future, that would be nice. it is about 25 bags/boxes of dried food for storage. commericial shippers will ship it for for approximately $1000, but that is 50% of the cost of the goods, and i am trying to see if i can do better than that on UShip. (11/29/2007)

Response: this is the same as the previous question, thanks. (11/29/2007)
Question: Hello again. I'm planning on coming up next week. I don't know what I can write in here without being flagged again. I know I don't have any feedback and you're making sure to protect yourself. I'm working at Alyeska there as a snowcat mechanic. I still have some room and can take this for you if you'd like. Let me know what kind of info you would like. I don't own any land or a house. Just my truck, camper, and trailer and all my gear in it. I will have this insured with my insurence company before I leave. Thanks. (12/4/2007)
Response: yes, i make a little effort to ensure their is a mutual liability/profit, because i would literally starve and my life would become total hell if i paid for the shipment, and then lost it. it is interesting to know you work for Aleyeska, and if i could confirm it, that would be good enough for me. i just feel really stupid blindly trusting $2000 of goods to someone with no name/property/business/assets/address, and no verification of employment/vehicles ... no contacts/attachments/accountability. i don't think this system will have a problem with me verifying your employment (your name and bosses name/number or something). maybe spell the number out. or try to force the reply (i did it once when it flagged something silly) with an explanation. i guess you can't do it C.O.D ... that would make things easy. i know time is getting tight and am thankful for your efforts. i can send the payment in if i can verify something that can put you at risk if there is no delivery. (12/5/2007)
Response: I also understand you're watching out for yourself. I currently work at Al's Sporting Goods in Logan, Utah. You can get there info online. I'll be there on Saturday in the morning to afternoon. You know what to do from here I'm guessing:) Hope to hear from you. (12/5/2007)
Response: ok - i am a little late in replying, sorry. just wanted to let you know i got you msg. (12/8/2007)
Response: Looks like I'm heading up this weekend or early the following week (12/17). I have room for this, let me know if you want me to take it. I've got some other shipments to also pick up. Thanks. (12/11/2007)
Response: sorry, my computer was down for the last week. i just got it back today, and got it going just now. i see your message about the sports store (i think that's what it was), but i was looking for a contact in AK. i don't have time to do anything in 1 week. i have to mail a payment in. everything seems OK with you, but because a loss of the shipment would leave me in dire straights (it is food i need to live on and i couldn't buy more if it was lost) i'd rather be safe than sorry. i am not thinking that you would run off with it, but i can think of scenerios where a difficulty/hardship at a border or something might give cause to drop the shipment rather than deliver it. without good references, professional qualifications, or doing it C.O.D., it is too risky for me. but if you do this from time to time and things change, i would like to keep contact with you. thank you (i hope you understand my position). (12/21/2007)
Response: That's fine. I actually had some stuff come up here and will be leaving January 17th. I wouldn't make you pay me til I got it to you. I would just want cash in person. You make the arrangments here, I'll pick it up, and when I get to you I get paid. Let me know what you think. I understand your position. I gave the job here so I could talk to you? (12/21/2007)
Response: yes, i deal only in cash. i am not worried about your delivery payment, i am worried about the cost of the goods, eg, being responsible for that cost before they are delivered because you have nothing to lose if the delivery fails. are you willing to do it C.O.D., in whole or part? are you willing to pay for any part of the cost of the goods so that you have some liability attached to their delivery? the value of the goods is about $2500. if you put $2000 into it for $2600 upon delivery, then i will say yes right away. yes, i understand you gave the job # down there for me to call, but i don't have long distance telephone service (yes, i know i can go get a pre-paid phone card), and i had computer troubles that prevented me from reading your messages just about the time you sent that message. (12/23/2007)
Question: Hello again. My name is Tyson. I work in the bicycles. (12/5/2007)
Question: No, I'm not paying for your food. I'd collect $600 when I get there. I understand your concern but I'm not going to be the one who is stuck with $2000 worth of dried food when you don't want it. I understand this will not work for you and I have other people's things to fill my trailer. Thanks anyways. (12/23/2007)
Response: i said the cost of the goods is $2500. i said i would pay $500 to guarantee that i accept delivery, after all, i don't want to lose $500 for the hell of it. you have to be responsible for theft, damage, negligence, loss, etc. but there is no way to attach liability to you - you don't appear to have private property of value, you don't appear to have any commercial licenses, you are not doing this as your source of primary income - there is no way to hold you responsible unless your liability is in the cost of the goods. i don't think you read/understood things properly. of course i considered you don't want to deliver undeliverable goods. but you are not considering that you must be held accountable for the delivery of them, and you have not proposed any other means for this. (12/26/2007)
Response: I understand your concern and I know you're only trying to cover yourself. I wanted to talk to you personally and that's why I gave you the info awhile back. I think we could work something out if I can talk to you. (12/26/2007)
Response: i just wanted to add this: i do own property, and a home, and two cars. i can be held liable (sued) for 'breach of contract'. you have a means to hold me liable, but i don't have any means to hold you liable. (12/26/2007)
Question: Hello, can I put it on the back of dually tarped with 2 other items going to Alaska. I'm fully DOT licensed & insured. Will do it for your target price. Happy Holidays == JP (12/27/2007)
Response: > Hello, can I put it on the back of dually tarped with 2 other items going to Alaska. I'm fully DOT licensed & insured. Will do it for your target price. Happy Holidays == JP Thanks, this sounds interesting. Is there any way I can verify that the insurance will cover the shipment? I am asking because the shipment is critical - it is food for my survival, and I cannot risk anything happening to it (the funds that pay for it). I need one week advance notice before you leave, since I am waiting to send in a payment for the goods. Happy New Years (sorry for the slight delay due to the holidays). (1/2/2008)

Response: this question has already been answered. (1/2/2008)
Question: Just wanted to let you know, that if anyone is being paid to transport goods. Then they DO NEED BOL's and additional forms(paperwork) if crossing anywhere into Canada. Even if they are using a ferry. If no paperwork then Canada & US Border Customs officers will hold goods at border. Have done it for years and it hasn't changed. == JP (12/28/2007)
Response: > Just wanted to let you know, that if anyone is being paid to transport goods. Then they DO NEED BOL's and additional forms(paperwork) if crossing anywhere into Canada. Even if they are using a ferry. If no paperwork then Canada & US Border Customs officers will hold goods at border. Have done it for years and it hasn't changed. == JP I don't understand how this affects me? I am also wondering (if it will create any extra burdens upon me) if they need to know you are being paid to move the food, or if you can just treat the goods as if they were for your own use. I am unclear about this message. (1/2/2008)
Question: Building up a convoy at this time, if your interested we have an available spot on some of our remaining containers going to Alaska everything is taking of first week in Feburary let me know something-FMMovers (1/13/2008)
Response: yes, i am interested but i do not see any positive feedback from your services. my shipment is dried food which is critical to my survival, and i can only deal with a shipper that can be held accountable/liable for its delivery. (1/14/2008)
Question: I have been driving to Alaska every year for the last 4 years I will be heading up April 14th we could possibly work some thing out. Also would you be interested in meeting at Haines Junction or some where close for a reduced price? (3/20/2008)
