Questions for this shipment:

Question: Is this ready to go? Do you have a target price? thanks (7/14/2008)
Response: It's ready to go. If I can,t have it trucked at what I think is reasonable, then I will rent a truck and do it my self. What I would like to see is that the boat be put on a trucking co. boat trailer and trucked to San Juan Island and dropped next to my shop. This would involve hiring a crane to lift it off the trailer it's on (the trailer belongs to the guy I bought the boat from and he will let me use it to haul the boat to my end but I would then have to take it back to Salt Lake). As far as a target price, I can do it my self for around $1,500 total. I have gotten trucking quotes from $2,500 to 5,500. (7/14/2008)
Response: I would be towing it on its own trailer. I could deliver your boat on the trailer, then after the boat is unloaded I could return the trailer to the owner in Salt Lake. I would be around 2500.00 for that though. Let me know what you think, Thanks (7/14/2008)
Response: am I understanding correctly that you could haul the boat out and the trailer back for 2,500 total? (7/14/2008)
Response: yes that is correct (7/14/2008)
Response: I'm liking your quote. This would incude all permits, fuel etc.? Insurance? At Anacortes you would take a ferry to San Juan Island. The ferry fee is approx. $560.00. I assume it is not incuded? (7/14/2008)
Response: Everything is included but the ferry fee both ways. Will they allow that size on the ferry with no problem? I would just give the receipt and the cost for going back, and we can settle up on that. Thanks (7/14/2008)
Response: No problem with the size on the ferry, they can haul much larger loads. You only pay for the ferry going one way.I would like to see proof of DOT license and insurance. I need to check with the guy I bought the boat from to see when this will work. I'll get back to you by tomorrow. (7/14/2008)
Question: We may need a permit for the width. If you click on my name you will see my profile and some pics of the large boats I have done, I would like to do this transport for you, and will do it for a reasonable price. Diesel fuel is the issue though! Review my feedback, and let me know what you could budget out for this transport, and I will see if we can make things work out. I am ready to roll asap. Have a Good One! (7/14/2008)
Response: I checked with all four states DOT's and the permits are about $150.00 total for me to buy (non professional). I have quotes from $2,500-$5,500. I could rent a truck and do it myself for about $1,500 but I'd rather not. (7/15/2008)
Response: I dont blame you, these transports are very stressful! You cover the misc expenses and the ferry, I'll get the permits, and get it to your shop for what I offered. I may have to return the trailer on my next run to Seattle, which is in a week or so. (7/15/2008)
Question: I can successfully transport this for you for 2300 cash to me. And return the trailer back to Ut where I reside. Is it possible to launch your boat before the ferry , and have you drive it to your slip, and save the cost of the ferry? (7/15/2008)
Response: I wish I could just put it in the water but it's been sitting in a storage yard for 19 years and who knows if the motor will work. I bought it as a project and I need to park it next to my shop to do the work. I would of course pay the conciderable ferry fees. (7/15/2008)
Response: What about putting it in the water to make sure she still floats, and maybe have it towed, or maybe that would cost more than the ferry? Just a thought. I would be happy to just see if it floats somewhere first before I take it to your shop. (7/15/2008)
Response: I'm not worried about it floating, it's a glass hull. I would have to pay to lift it into the water and pay again to lift it out at the other end and then pay again to transport it to my shop. Not an option. I need to get it on the ferry and to my shop. (7/15/2008)
Response: OK, that works for me just fine. What kind of notice do you need to give the yard crew and the crane? I could let them know when I am a few hours away, if that is enough. (7/16/2008)
Response: I'm working on the details at both ends. This won't happen for a couple of weeks. I'm looking at Aug 3-6th as the best window. would you be available? (7/16/2008)
Response: Bummer, I was hoping it was good to go now, and I could leave this week. I can probably re-arrange some work and get close to those dates. But I have to be here on the 7th for my parents 50th anniversary. So I would have to leave Seattle by the 5th, and leave UT on the morning of the 3rd. So it should work out, I just have to cancel out on a couple other loads. So let me work on that for a bit, and I will get right back to you, and we can fine tune things here. Thanks again! (7/16/2008)
Question: OKI. I have rearranged things and can commit to the time frame. Should I bid it so we can fine tune things? (7/17/2008)
Question: Your'e probably busy, so I will go ahead and bid this, so we can quit typing and chat on the phone. The bid I am submitting wil be all inclusive with my fees and the expense of the add. Let me know if you have any other questions or concern... Or just accept the bid, and we will talk. (7/17/2008)
Question: Whoops I entered that wrong, I need to redo it, Sorry! (7/17/2008)
Response: I've checked with the guy I bought the boat from and the 3rd or 4th of Aug works for him. He would help securing the boat and getting the trailer ready. I think someone told me oversize loads couldn't be hauled on the weekends and as the 3rd is a Sunday that might affect the date if it's true. Here's some things to think about- The ferry rates are less on Sun Mon and Tues but I'm not worried about the roughly $60 difference. If you couldn't leave on Sun or Sat I'm guessing you wouldn't be able to get to the ferry landing by Tues morning sometime. The boat needs to be on one of the morning runs to have enough time to schedule the crane for later that day. The ferry departure times are: 4:30am, 6:20am, 8:45am, 11:05am, 3:10pm, 5:05pm,8:25pm. You said you had to be back on the 7th as I recall. This could be done after the 7th if it would work better for you. At some point I have know what day to arrange the crane and clear it with the ferry service. I know this complicated but it'll work. (7/17/2008)
Response: I will figure out the best scenario for getting the boat there on time. When I get back on the 7th, I will be unavailable till the 10th. I doubt you want to wait that long, so we will just come up with a game plan that works for me to P/U on the 2-3. Once you accept the bid, our problems will be over, and we will figure it all out on the phone. I will be in and out of signal range the next 2 days. So we can chat on Sat or Sunday about this whole thing. Have a Great Weekend!! (7/18/2008)
Question: Hi Dan, just got back from Strawberry and ready to fine tune things. So do you live in Ut or Wa or both? I was hoping to finalize things here shortly after you accept the bid. Let me know your whereabouts, and we'll go from there. Good Day! (7/19/2008)
Response: Ok, I just got off the phone with the DOT in all four states and there are no restrictions hauling at night or the weekends. The boat has to have side lights at night and flags in day and of course wide load signs front and back. Idaho requires a flashing cab top light at night. I've got the ferry and the crane things worked out. Could you assure me you could be at the Anacortes ferry terminal at 10:00am on tues the 5th of Aug.? I am somewhat flexable on that date, the 4th could work. I just need to know so I can schedule the crane. I'll accept your bid with the understanding that you would move the boat for $2,300 all DOT permit fees and fuel included, payment upon delivery at my shop. I'll take care of the ferry fees. I would require proof of insurance and DOT registration. (7/21/2008)
Response: I would prefer to have it there on the 4th. I do have the banners. I have done these transports without having to involve DOT, nor do I want to. I dont want to pull into their ports and go through the hassels involved. So I have successfully done alot of these without having to have big brother involved. And I am insured. If your okay with this scenario, let me know and we can proceed on the phone. Thanks again! (7/21/2008)
Response: Does this mean your not registered with DOT? (7/21/2008)
Response: Yes. Never had a reason to, nor do I see the need. Its just more paper shuffling, fees, and intervention that nobody wants to endure. My 100% positive feedback, the amount of succesfull transports I have accomplished, and the ability I have to deal with circumstances as they arise, will give you all the confidence and concern you will not have to stress over. Hope that helps. Be in touch! (7/21/2008)
Question: Edited: Only reason he's been sucessful with no DOT involved is because he's skipping scales hoping not to get caught. Oversize banners and flags are a target for a scale house. Wizz past them without them having a look at everything just to make themselves happy is asking for trouble and inpound. With the weight of that boat and trailer it should be towed with at least a 1 ton dually. And even though a dually will tips the scales between 10-12k, thats still on the -50% side of total transport weight.Safely you'd want to be at least +60% with the tow vehicle. Oregon requires permits all triple axle trailers. And forget WA, anything over 16k total HAS to stop at the scales, commercial or not. Unfortuantly, although my truck can carry the weight no problem I haven't got it registered that way to haul over 10k. Make sure your provider is DOT and at least Class B CDL and you should have a safe transport. Just my two cents worth on that one. Take care and go (7/21/2008)
Question: I do use a one-ton dually with air bags to handle extra weight. I do have a Class B CDL, and when I have pulled into the ports before, they have requested I dont come in there unless I use air brakes. Pickups are not required to go through the ports, and there are many signs stating just that. "No Pickups" Oversize permits and banners is what is needed. (7/21/2008)
Response: With an oversize load and avoiding scales seems like trouble waiting to happen. Not a risk I'm willing to take. Sorry. (7/22/2008)
Response: Its not that I wont go through the scales, its just not necessary. As I mentioned earlier, most of them prefer not to mess with us little guys, and are more concerned with the big trucks, and their overweight issues. If you prefer I stop at them all, and get validation I was there for your peace of mind, I can do that. It does take alot of extra time waiting, and waisting ALOT of fuel, so I will need that made up, but I can and will go through them for you. But I need to know asap if I am going to transport this. I have spent alot of time already trying to secure this, and have been walking away from alot of other loads in order to do this in your time frame. I sure hope to pull this off here, and put your mind at ease that there won't be any risks. Unless the DOT folk are having a bad day, and want to figure out some stupid reason to give me a citation that I dont deserve, or find a mechanical problem on the trailer, or who knows? Thats their job to be that way. Anyway enough said. (7/22/2008)
Question: Also I was wondering if you are at the p/u or the drop off locations. (7/22/2008)
Question: Guess I lost ya. (7/23/2008)
