Questions for this shipment:

Question: Hello shipper, I am out of lititz. Which is about 1/2 hour from Mt. Gretna. I have a trip to Ct on the 10th. Is there anyway to have help to load and unload. We would blanket wrap and secure the lathe to the wall of the truck. It would be carried in a box truck. Thanks dtrans. (9/2/2009)
Response: Yes it is possible to find help at each end but I will then expect a much-reduced price. A heavy duty appliance dolly will still be needed. Truck must have a ramp or lift gate. Thanks. (9/2/2009)
Response: what kind of price would you like too see, with help being provided by you. (9/2/2009)
Response: Of course I have an approximate price in mind but my understanding of this web site is that you are expected to bid on jobs like these. (9/2/2009)
Response: you are correct. We just try to get a feel for peoples expectations. Would you accept a bid for $225 with you providing the help (9/2/2009)
Response: The loading in PA is complex due to the 500 lb piece of heavy equipment located down a long narrow hallway at ground level with packed dirt floor, and then with one step up into a workshop area. Only a heavy duty appliance-type dolly will make it through, and this will take 4 strong men according to the owner. Four men would not be able to lift this into a van or pickup truck. A heavy duty ramp or lift gate is needed -- and then the lathe should remain upright during shipping to avoid damage. I do not see that you have the necessary equipment to do all this even if I arranged for men to help. Please let me know if I am wrong about this. (9/2/2009)
Response: I have people to get it out and will rent appropriate equipment. (9/2/2009)
Question: I went to the web page, and they show 3 different models. Is there anyway to put this on a pallet and we could pallets jack it through the hall ways? The truck has a 4500lb capacity liftgate, so getting it onto the truck isnt a problem. This seems much easier than "bringing 4 strong men and a dolly" See the profile pictures of the vehicle used. The issue with a pallet is the step... maybe rampable? down the step? Thanks (9/2/2009)
Response: Thank you for checking about these details. It shows that you are trying to do the job right. I had suggested using a pallet but the owner at the pickup residence tells me that the hallways to his workshop are narrow and windy, and that the best thing to use is a rolling dolly. I can try getting the hallway dimensions. As far as which model, it is the pedestal only, it does not have those long pipe-like stuctures but does have the detachable toolrest. The dimensions of the pedestal are 21" x 20" x 52" The owner said: You will ABSOLUTELY need the Appliance Dolly ( Hand Truck ) to get it out of the shop. ( it is a winding hall ). The lathe will need to be rolled ( on the Hand Truck ) about 150 feet through the shop then garage. Again, 4 guys and a hand truck is really the only good way to do this at this location ( unfortunately I speak from experience ! ). Also, a narrow road to his house. Only a box truck can make it: no semi's, no pup trailers, etc. Hope this helps. (9/2/2009)
Response: I have the equipment. The truck is a straight truck, so that's easy. Its the 4 guys I have to bring there thats the issue for me. Guess this will have to go to a much more local carrier. Thanks (9/2/2009)
Response: Yes, I see that would make it difficult. I appreciate you seriously considering my moving needs. Thanks, -=- Rob (9/2/2009)
