Response: I just found out today the trailer has no brakes which at 4000 lbs is crazy. We are looking into the cost of putting brakes on the trailer so perhaps by middle to late next week. (10/1/2009)

Response: The trailer is a 2006 model year in good shape but I only found out today that it has no braking system on it. The boat unit weighs 4000lbs so seems heavy to me with no brakes. We are looking into having brakes added in Tennessee so it would not be ready by Monday I think. (10/1/2009)

Response: thanks i don't think grady white is that heavy would be closer to 21-2500 looking at it can you get a better look at head on reciever looks like a raised hitch which is surge brakes keep us informed will be glad to hau for you thanks bill (10/1/2009)

Response: The grady is a slight bit heavier than your weight and then the engine is 600 lbs and the weight of the trailer. She is somewhat lighter than 4000 but not much.Never seen a trailer that large without brakes but the dealer confers taht is the case. (10/1/2009)

Response: yes i went to web site for weight theres must have been dry and no motor that's why i asked and i agree i've never seen a tandem axle that didn't have brakes, looking at pic looks like has surge head on it thats why i ask for confirmation thanks and please keep us informed how long did they say to put brakes on and is it cheaper to buy another trailer (just idea) thanks bill (10/1/2009)

Response: Unless you or the state requires the brakes I don't need them to tow your boat. Most have surge brakes and they only work once(until it is put in the water). I personally have a boat same as your's in size/weight and don't have any brakes on it which is not a problem. Usually it's dependent on having much more boat and more than one axle that needs brakes on trailer. Thanks, Debbie (10/3/2009)

Response: You're welcome. I only know of Florida requiring brakes on trailers and they are heavier with more axles than your's or mine. Older ones weren't made with them anyway. (10/3/2009)

Response: Those dates might work out okay, it has taken me longer than expected because the trailer for the boat has no brakes. One answer might be hauling it on your trailer and I will deal with the brake problem when it arrives here. The unit weighs just under 4000lbs. (10/3/2009)

Response: i am not far from counce and there is a trailer repair shop near. if you want i could pick up and have an estimate sent to you for repair from shop after bid confirmation. i think it will be around 350 as i just had brakes put on my gooseneck. if it is only 4000 lbs i mite be able to haul without brakes but would rather get them fixed.please let me know. thank you shaun sizemore (10/3/2009)

Response: Thanks for the response. The brake problem is a little more than fixing them. There never was any brakes put on the trailer when it was new, so it needes a lot more than repairs. The boat dealer is looking into it now but thanks for your offer. I will be in touch. (10/3/2009)

Question: Hello Shipper. You should be able to get electic brakes for about $650. Your going to need them anyway. You would have to flatbed your load otherwise and that would be more then elec brakes. Let me know whats the dealer says and we will bid in the meantime as if you have brakes, elec works much better then hydraulic, much less wear and tear on your trucks braking sys, and I put 15,000 miles a month on braking situations, thats a lot of braking experience. Question: Hi. I did some checking on your need for trailer brakes. TN doesn't require it on your size if it fits requirements for towing vehicle. Your's does if you go with a 1 ton truck. Either way, if you get brakes installed go with surge brakes, not electric. Electric brakes on a boat trailer will not last any time. Even surge brakes don't last long if it goes in salt water, but they do last a little longer than electric. Guess it depends on the hauler.....I've never had any problem with boats of your weight not having brakes if the vehicle towing can handle the load. Thanks, Debbie (10/6/2009)
