Response: THE STAIRS ARE STEEL, PAINTED BLACK, THERE WILL BE SOMEONE AT EACH END TO HELP LOAD AND UNLOAD THE STAIRS HAVE A CENTER POLE AND ARE SPIRAL APPROX 36" DIAMETER. THERE IS A LOFT GUARD THAT WILL BE WITH IT (IT IS SMALL AND LIGHT) (7/20/2006)
