Description: Old (not antique?) Oak dresser (empty) in parents' basement. Measurements are approximate.

Additional Information: Move from residence to residence. Elderly parents will not be able to assist at departure location; dresser must be moved out of basement and through garage to driveway to load onto truck. Item can be carefully wrapped in blankets and taped; probably does not need to be crated. (It is sturdy, not fragile.) Destination is another residence; can be moved into garage (we'll take it from there!)

Questions for this shipment:

Question: Is it a straight run from basement to garage or are there stairs/ awkward corners etc to negotiate? (8/10/2007)

Response: Hi, It's up one straight flight of stairs (no awkward turns on the stairs, that is), out into the kitchen hallway (to make room to close the basement door and open the door to the garage), and one step down to get out to the garage. (At the top of the stairs it would be just around a corner if not for the doors.) Dad doesn't remember any problems getting it downstairs - but that was a long time ago! Response: Thanks for the reply. Is the weight accurate? The reason for all the questions is I am one man with a dolly and other handling equipment on this trip. If it is manageable by me or someone is able to help up the stairs then I could do this for $200 pick up and delivery Tues. (8/10/2007)

Response: The weight is approximate - I'll ask my brother to get more reliable information for me when he's out there this weekend. The bulkiest part is the dresser frame, of course, which will be lighter if the drawers were removed for the trip up the stairs. Unfortunately, there won't be anyone who could help on the pick-up end - mom and dad are quite frail. - Elaine (8/10/2007)

Response: No. Elderly parents on the departure end are to be discouraged from helping, as it would be a health risk if either assists. Possible help on receiving end, but better to plan for no assistance, given our bad backs. Thanks for asking. ~ek (8/13/2007)

Response: Can one person load the dresser? (8/19/2007)

Response: That depends on the person and the equipment. The dresser is about 36" wide X 18" deep X 50" high; my brother in law says the weight is about 60 lbs. If one person had a dolly and straps to get it up the stairs, and a lift on the truck to get it into the truck, it could probably work. But I want to be crystal clear that there will be no person who could help (even though dad may offer, it's a medical risk if he tries). Best wishes, ~e (8/22/2007)
