  • Shipment Details: i have 100 tons of nutrient rich soil i am shipping from New Orleans to Chicago. I am a student at the US MErchant Marine academy doing a project for my Logistics and intermodal transportation class. Question: How is it to be packed in the rail cars? bags? bulk? (2/8/2008)
Response: Bulk I would assume. I am not really sure because i wasn't able to chose soil, it was assigned. So i do not know much about how to ship it. (2/8/2008)

Response: the loading and unloading facilities will be equipped with whatever is needed to move the soil. I am focusing on the cost of transportation. Is there a ballpark estimate you could give me for the shipment of this amount of soil in trucks? (2/8/2008)
Response: 1.8 - 2.00/mile (2/8/2008)
Question: If you are just wanting a ball park estimate I would say about $12,000 To $15,000 just a ball park. shipping by dump truck 5 loads at 40,000 pounds eash would move you dirt. I will look into this futher if you are interested.Don't forget someone has got to pay U-Ship (2/24/2008)
