Freight Listing Information
Detailed Description: This is a shipment of (6) pallets at 2600 pounds I won on auction. The dimensions and weights are provided by the auction company and considered estimated, so base your bid on the pictures as well. This auction is for moving scrap cable. This is scrap cable so use whatever freight class you desire, our selection will be made on your bid price. I am in no hurry for these to arrive, but a LOW PRICE is critical to win the bid. I am open to air and sea shipments. You are bidding on picture (#1) which is the blue cable and two pallets of the grey cable behind it (claimed to be 800# for these three pallets) and in picture (#2) the three reels of black cable (claimed to be 1800# for these three pallets).

Questions for this shipment:

Question: Hello, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. Honolulu. We can assist you with your shipment from Kapolei here on The Island here on Oahu. You should be aware that you have trucking preparation charges, trucking charges from Kapolei to The Port of Honolulu, ocean charges based on cubic feet and then trucking charges based on the total weight you have listed @ 2600 lbs from the west coast to your location in Dallas, TX. There is no way that you can have this done for $300. That just covers the trucking charges alone from Kapolei to The Port of Honolulu here on The Island of Oahu. You should also be aware that they do not have a scale where your shipment is located @ there in Kapolei. They are only estimating the weight. I am sure that the total weight is higher than 2600 lbs. We have done shipments like yours many times from there in Kapolei (cont'd) (1/28/2009)
Response: Thank you for your assistance, we'll let you know. We just have to find a way to cut costs. (1/29/2009)
Response: Hello, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. Thanks for your reply. I fully understand. I have a suggestion. We can take the wire off the spools & put the wire into a Gaylord Box (pallet box). This will cut down your weight & volume tremendously. I estimate that at least 50-75% of the weight is the wooden spools and pallets. This will cut the cost of trucking form the west coast to Dallas a lot. Cutting down on the volume will cut down on your ocean (port-to-port) charges because the cubic feet will be cut big time also. I am going to submit a new quote based on us breaking down the wire, the Gaylord Box, 70 cubic feet or less @ 1000 lbs or less. See our new quote & "View Bid Details" for information. We will be loading our own container on Sunday, February 8th. The next sail date from The Port of Honolulu is February 13 then. Let us know by contacting us here on U-Ship. Mahalo. (1/29/2009)
Question: (cont'd) We are glad to assist you with your shipment but you have to realistic about your cost also. You have approximately 335 cubic feet of ocean charges. Your cost is much higher that you have calculated for this shipment. This is located here on The Island of Oahu in the middle of The Pacific Ocean 2,800 miles from the west coast , not the mainland. Contact us here on U-Ship if you have any questions. Mahalo (1/28/2009)
Question: Hello, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. We have just resubmitted our quote along with the pertinent information about your shipment. I am trying to help you here with your shipment. Not only are you looking at trucking charges there on the mainland but also preparing your shipment in Kapolei, trucking it to The Port of Honolulu and then ocean freight it to the west coast. This is what needs to be done. There is no way getting around it if you want your shipment shipped. In regard to preparing your shipment, they at the point of origin in Kapolei do not do this. I know this for a fact for we have shipped over 200,000 pounds of material out of there in the last 3 years (cont'd) (1/28/2009)
Question: (cont'd) Again, I have calculated your ocean charges @ 335 cubic feet. You have to pay for this space in an ocean container unless you want to ship it air (which we do also) but that is way more expensive. If anyone tells you different then ask them where Kapolei is, what island it is on, how they plan on prepping your shipment, how they plan on getting it to the Port of Honolulu & how they plan on getting it to the west coast. Ask them if they have all the logistics in place to handle such shipments. Again, we are trying to assist you in a professional way by notifying you up front as what is all involved for your shipment from A-Z. Contact us here on U-Ship if you have any questions. Mahalo (1/28/2009)
Question: Hello, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. I know that you have declined our quotes twice. I am just giving you a heads up. No driver will prepare your shipment for shipping. The GL personnel will not do it either for it is against their company policy. Many times customers have sent trucking companies to this location and they refused to pick up the shipments do to they were not prepared. Here in Hawaii things are done different then on the mainland. It’s not us; it’s the life style here. I am from the mainland. I transferred with Fed Ex in 2001. It took me a while to adjust to the life/work style here. It’s just a fact of life here. Still I would not live any place else. We go there all the time to pack, crate, and condense pallets & to ship. In fact, we are going there today to ship out a truck, trailer, forklift and pallets of army surplus (cont’d) (1/29/2009)
Question: Also, we ship Fed Ex Freight. We are their biggest freight shipper here in Hawaii. In the last 2 years alone we have shipped over 400,000 pounds from here in Hawaii with Fed Ex Air Freight. I can reassure you that to ship your shipment with them will be way more and I mean way more than us shipping it via ocean do to the weight and /or dimensional. weight. Dimensional weight is L x W x H divided by 194 for domestic shipments. Also, they will refuse to pick up your shipment anyway for they will NOT band and/or shrink wrap your shipment. It is Fed Ex’s policy. I know this for a fact for I worked for them for 19 years. The driver WILL refuse to pick up your shipment. Your shipment needs to be banded not just shrink wrap anyway. Shrink wrap will not hold the wire in place on the pallets do the size and weight. We take our banding machine out there to properly band shipments. (cont’d) (1/29/2009)
Question: (cont’d) Also, the pallets they have your fright on have are weathered damaged form the ocean air for they leave their pallets outside all the time. The salt makes them deteritate. for it is located right next to the ocean. You can see that in the pictures you have posted. They will not make it to Dallas on these pallets. This is another reason the pick up drivers will refuse your to pick up your shipment. We go and take our own pallets out there and forklift our customers’ freight on to good pallets to make sure they make it their destination. We then condense the shipments down, shrink wrap and band the freight to the pallets. Again, I am not trying to be derogative here. I am being honest and straight forward with you to let you know how it works here. Contact us here on U-Ship if you have any questions. Ocean is the cheapest for your shipment. If it was air then we would post a quote for air. Again you have an estimated 335 cubic feet (cont'd) (1/29/2009)
Question: (cont'd) We fill our own ocean containers. This eliminates "the other hands in the pot" ocean freight consolidators. This helps keep your cost down. Mahalo (1/29/2009)
