Question: It is not legal at 15' high. What comes off? (11/14/2007)

Response: Hi
The length of the boat is correct at 42 feet. It is steel at the weight is 18,000 pounds. The height of the boat when on the bed of the truck is about even with the trucks cab. We have shiped by both a low boy and hydraulic trailer (first from Wisconsin to Maryland and then from Maryland to Mass). She is 11'9" wide. She has two masts that are laid down and attached to her deck and she has her own stands. The boat yard can lift her onto the bed of the truck.
We will have her delivered to another boat yard in our area with a hoist.
Thank You for your interest (11/15/2007)

Response: What type of boat is this? So the height of the boat is probably only 12' if it is even with the height of the cab of a tractor trailer which is probably 13' or 13'6". (11/15/2007)

Response: Hi
In both moves the boat was not higher then the cab of the truck that was transporting her. But an exact measurement of the boats height I cannot provide you. (11/17/2007)

Response: Can't get near your target price especially with the price of fuel. Sorry. (11/18/2007)

Response: Okay well thank you for looking. (11/18/2007)

Question: Is this really 42 ft, weight seems low for that length, We can do this ASAP, but need you to confirm the length. Let us know, Thanks!! (11/15/2007)

Response: Thank you for your interest. The highest we can go is $5000.00
(11/15/2007)

Question: are you sure on the weight? the weight of a fiberglass boat this size weighs 18000lbs. more like 18 tons i would bet. (11/19/2007)

Response: Hi, Yes sure about the weight. Fiberglass is fairly thick so accounts for much of its weight. Steel is thin plate. It seems counter intuitive but this means that the boat weighs just about the same as its fiberglass equivalent. (11/19/2007)

Response: well, recently i hauled a 40 sailboat that was made of steel and it weighed 35,000lbs. i highly doubt that yours weighs 18,000lbs. i guarantee if you dont have a triple axle trailer pick this up you will be unhappy with the results. and thats putting it mildly. (11/19/2007)

Response: I have no doubt that you recently hauled a 40 foot vessel weighting about 35,000 pounds. My guess is that she was not a Colvin Gazellel. The Colvin Gazzell weighs 16000 - 18000 pounds. She is an extremely light, shallow-draft-design drawing only 3 foot- 7 inches. The Gazell is specifically designed to sail smartly in very light winds and go over reefs in the Caribbean. In general the weight of a boat is not dictated by the type material that used in her construction, but is determined more by the amount of sail area, and how high above the the vessels "tipping center" the sails "center of effort" is located. As for the weight of steal, most people are surprised to discover that a 4 foot by 8 foot piece of 1/8 inch steal plate only weighs about 150 pounds. As for the number of axis required on the trailer that is a call which the shipper will make, but thank you for your advise
We have shipped Destiny twice(2 different companys) both reported 18000 pounds NOT tons. (11/20/2007)

Response: ok, i did look at several other colvins on yachtworld and it does confirm the weight of 18,000lbs. my bad here. keep in mind that weight plays a big factor in transport. im just trying to get accurate measurements to quote this for you.DRD (11/21/2007)

Question: I am familiar with your gazelle..we have two of them in our boatyard in Rockport,TX. We need a load back from the northeast around 12/10. We are fully liscemsed and insured, semi tractor with air ride boat transport trailer. We are new to uship but NOT new to quality boat transport. John (houseofboats) (11/19/2007)

Response: We are very flexable with regards to the shipping date so could easily accommadate your schedule. What is your price range?
Thanks (11/20/2007)

Response: As we need the backhaul, I will do the job for 4500.00 if we can pickup around 12/10. Let me know and I will place bid for aceptance.
John (houseofboats) (11/20/2007)

Response: Hi John
Sounds good the timing is fine. Would you please let me know the following:
Before you sign on the dotted line with the shipper ... several items to get in writting.
1. Are you insured for the vessel durring transit.
2. How is payment handled, would certified check to the driver upon delievery be acceptable?
3. Type of trailer --- low boy or hydralic.
4. Is there space between the boat and the trailer to carry 6 jack stands.
5. How long will the boat be in transit ... so we can plan with the marina.
Thanks
(11/20/2007)

Response: Hi,and thanks for the good communication
Your boat will be isured for up to 150,000 while in transport. Once the bid has been placed and accepted, I will send you that documentation.I will also send a boat transport agreement at that time. Our payment terms are 1/3 deposit with the balance payable to the driver on delivery by cash or cashier's check.
We can also accept visa or mastercard via telephone to home office. There is a 3% surcharge for credit card payment.
We will be using a 48' air ride highway boat transport trailer. It is not a hydraulic triler. There will plenty of room for the boat stands.
I would like to pick the boat up first thing Monday morning Dec the 10th. Delivery in New Orleans first thing Friday Dec 14th. I like to allow a little extra time to assure that the schedule can be adhered to.I'd rather be a day early than a day late. No surprises and no anxiety. We will keep you informed the whole way.

(11/20/2007)

Response: Hi John
That all sounds good. I will be talking with the pick up and drop off facillities today to confirm there are no conflicts on either end with the time frame (I doubt there will be a problem but want to make sure). As soon as I have that wrapped up I will email so you can submitt the bid.
Thanks
(11/21/2007)

Response: Bid submitted based on our conversation. John (houseofboats) (11/22/2007)

Response: Hi John
Just wanted to let you know I have not forgotten about the bid. I called the yard in Massachusetts and they are closed until Monday (Thanksgiving weekend holiday). I will be calling them Monday and confirm with them. On the New Orleans end everything is set. They did say that they only lift off of trailors Monday through Friday and are not there on the weekend. Just wanted to let you know that for your timing issues.
Thanks
(11/24/2007)

Response: Good to hear back from you..We are counting on your boat for our return trip as planned..keep me informed. John(houseofboats) (11/24/2007)

Response: Absolutely it is my top priority to get with Mass. when they reopen Monday morning to verify pickup options. I will contact you Monday thanks for your patience. (11/24/2007)

Question: Shipper, it sounds like you have moved this vessel several times before and have some knowledge of boat transports. So, with your past experience, why would you look for the lowest rate, or have a target rate that is out dated by a year, instead of using a carrier with experence transporting sailboats equal in size to yours. Your 4000.00 target is about 2.40 a mile after permits. Do you realy think that is enough with today's increased costs? We will post bid but we can't meet your target. Thank you. (11/25/2007)
