Special Care Item Listing Information
  • Antique Pedestal Bathtub 1880-1920 Rare Vintage
  • Description: I won a gorgeous antique bathtub from a gentleman in Danville, IA, that I need shipped to Crofton, Maryland. It is a cast iron tub on a pedestal (not the usual claw feet) with a side filling faucet (not on the end). It would be very easy to chip the porcelain or damage the faucet somehow, so this needs very special care.
  • Length:6 ft 0 in
  • Width:3 ft 0 in
  • Height:2 ft 0 in
  • Weight: 300 lbs
Packaging:
This would have to be blanket wrapped. I don't think crating is necessary if it is handled properly.
Additional Information: No stairs, delivery to garage (not inside home). Report a Violation

Questions for this shipment:

Question: Hi, I live a few miles from Danville, and have relatives in Maryland I would enjoy visiting. I could take your bathtub in the back of my 1 ton pickup easily, and secure it without difficulty. I have 100% positive feedback here (see profile for bryan2) and on eBay (sunrider12). If you have an interest in me transporting this for you please let me know the price you feel is fair and the timetable. If I can find a reasonable return shipment I would enjoy making the trip. thanks. bryan (8/20/2007)
Response: Hi, Bryan - I appreciate your response. Two questions for you: Does your pickup have a cap or cover? I don't want the tub exposed to the elements, vandalism, etc. Also, I would need it picked up from the person I bought it from fairly soon (within the week) and would like to have it in Maryland not long thereafter, so if you need to wait for a return shipment, this might not be a good fit. What would make it worth your while pricewise to make it a quick turnaround? Thanks for getting in touch - Lisa (8/20/2007)
Response: thanks for the quick and welcome reply. I do have a topper (see a picture in my uShip profile) but it's not currently mounted on the truck. However, I think loading and unloading are the most risky part of the move in regard to potential damage and having full access to the truck bed would make all that much easier. Once in the truck bed and blanket covered an overall tarp should protect it without difficulty. There are almost always return loads so that may not be a problem. I don't have a price in mind but, for reference, if I were to tow something out instead of carry it in my truck it would be about $1 per loaded mile...that would be the competition in terms of pricing. so just let me know what works for you and if it sounds good to me I'll place a bid right away. thanks. bryan (8/20/2007)
Response: Bryan - thanks for the info, but I think I need to keep my costs closer to $450 - $500, so I might need to wait for a larger volume shipper. I appreciate your response, though. Thanks - Lisa (8/20/2007)
Response: that sounds like a reasonable price, and you should be able to find someone to transport it for you (providing the packaging and loading/unloading is taken care of by you). I'll keep an eye on other listings and if I see something that works for me, and your shipment is till available, I'll place a bid. thanks. bryan (8/20/2007)
Response: thanks, Bryan! (8/20/2007)
Question: Hello Shipper, thanks for the bid request. We are a small, independent moving company based in Iowa City, IA. We are professional full service movers with great rates. A few questions: 1. Is there anything preventing semi access at both ends? ie tight turns, overheads less than 13'6" or bridges w/ weight restrictions. 2. How many stairs would be involved at each end? Please reply if you are interested. Billy, Adamantine Spine Moving. (8/20/2007)
Response: Hi Billy - Thanks for your interest in the shipment. As for the first question, there aren't any access restrictions on the Maryland side - you would know about the Iowa side much better than I would. There are no stairs on the Maryland end - let me check with the fellow in Iowa about his end, but I don't think so. Can you give me an idea of your rates? thanks. Lisa (8/21/2007)
Response: Depending on the truck access and the amount of stairs involved, our charges would be around $500. Let us know about the stairs at the origin and I'll post a bid. -Billy (8/21/2007)
Response: Hi Billy - Were you planning on bidding? I'd like to wrap things up with the seller as soon as possible. Thanks. Lisa (8/22/2007)
