Response: Hi Phil. OK, so perhaps this can work out for both of us. My intention was to fly down and drive it back, if I could not find shipping at an affordable rate. This is a hybrid vehicle, so the cost of gas to drive would be minimal ($90-110, depending on gas prices). The one-way, non-stop airline ticket to West Palm Beach is $134 including tax; and I would have to pay for one night in a motel ($50 estimate). I'm on vacation, so I have the time; and I don't mind driving. The trip would cost me $275 or so.
You said that you will already be down there, and will be heading back home this way. What do you think would be fair price for both of us, all things considered. I knew I couldn't afford a full-price quote to ship ($750+). I was hoping someone would need an "add-on" or "back-load" that could work for both parties.
Let me know what you think. I do have to make a decision soon, since the flight leaves around 9am tomorrow (Thurs.).

Response: A dependable shipping company I have used on previous auto purchases gave me a quote of $680; so I know your price is fair. It's just too much for me to spend right now.
Originally, the max was $400. I know, not much for this long of a trip. But again, I can do it myself for $275, so you have to see my side as well.
I didn't realize that uShip's fee was $100!! I would go a little more to help with the fees, if you can get my shipment worked in.
Do you own the truck that would be carrying my vehicle, or is it being brokered out to another driver? I tried to look up the company (PDs), but there was some confusion. It looked like there was another PD Shipping and Transport, or something like that; Fort Lauderdale?

Response: My father and I own this business and we live on the MI/south bend IN line. How much do you feel is fair to not have to worry about this shipment being done? Response: 400 was originally my max....max budget. However, I understand that you have to pay the uship fee out of your part. If you can make the committment soon, I will go up to cover whatever that fee is....50....75.....100. I want it to be fair and workable for both of us. It's more than I can really spend on this, and less than what you really want; but it sounds like we can work it out. Just place the bid as per normal. Again, 400 + whatever uShip charges you. Deal? At this point, do you know when you will make the pick-up in Florida? I need to let the dealership know in advance, so they can have the vehicle ready.
Also, I'm pleased that this has worked out for both of us. However, I am now making commitments based on my not having to go to Florida in the morning; so I need to know that you are sure you can make the run. I guess you would not have bid unless your Miami deal was secured; but just wanted to make sure.
Let's continue to communicate by email as much as possible. It seems like I get a million phone calls a day; so I invested in a BlackBerry, and can normally get back to you right away via email. I won't call to bother you unless something is very time-sensitive. I would appreciate the same courtesy.
