5 - 6 trips a year hauling antiques
  • My husband and I have an antique store in SLC area. We buy most of our antiques in the DFW area. We have been doing buying trips and hauling our items back in our SUV and a uhaul for a year and a half going every other month. We are just looking to see what the price would be to have someone or some company to do the hauling for us.
  • Antiques...most people would be scared but we wrap the nicer pieces with blankets and the other items it's ok if some paint chips of, it just adds to the look. We would have all the smalls wrapped and boxed and then the medium pieces (chairs) would be either wraped or ok however and then the large pieces would all be blanket wrapped.
  • It will always vary just because each trip I buy different items. The largest items I have ever had would be a buffet like about 6 ft long x 20 inches deep x 3 ft tall or a wardrobe about 3 ft long x 30 inches deep x 6 1/2 ft tall. Hopefully that makes sense.

I'm retired and live in the DFW area. I've been hauling trailers for 30 years. I presently have a small stock trailer that can be weather proofed. My first question is how much does it cost you round trip ( milage, motel, food etc.)? My costs are the same as yours. I drive a 1 ton dually truck,Diesel. It is 2 1/2 days one way. Response: My husband and I have been doing the trip. We would start out driving and go thru the night which it takes us about 20'ish hours. Then we would buy for about a week and drive home. We would just take turns every fill up we switch drivers. We just got rid of our Lincoln Navigator and we would just rent a Uhaul, either 5 x 10 or 6 x 12. We would fill the Uhaul and our Nav. and strap somethings to the roof of the Nav. Gas has varity of course over the last year and a half that we have been doing this but we have never spent more than $650 and that was at this summer's high point in gas. Response: My family still lives in the Fort Worth area. I would just fly down buy for a few days and then meet ya'll the day to pack and load up. Then fly home and get ready for the load to arrive. 10/4/2007Report a Violation

You guys are awesome! I admire couples who not only dedicate that amount to a small business, but can spend all that time together. My wife would "kill" me about 1/2 way through the trip. If I may suggest, you might want to think about renting a storage unit in the DFW area, and "stockpiling" 2 or 3 trips worth of items, then hiring a trucking company with a 53' van to haul this. It definitely would be more cost effective. I could move a 53' van for not a whole lot more than the quotes you are receiving right now. I am going to watch your shipments. Response: I literally have four other antique store owners that would love to come with me to Texas on a buying trip. I just have never known how we could get all the stuff back. So if you could give me a bid with your 53' truck that would be great. Also the exact size so I could figure out how much each dealer would have and how much it would be per space. BubsF350, I am home-based in Weatherford TX, just 26 miles West of Fort Worth, I have the proper trailer set up and a very dependable truck to pull it for your moving needs. I have a 24 foot enclosed trailer with E-tracking throughout the trailer which allows me to set up shelving at any height so items don't have to be stacked on each other, I wrap every item with packing blankets and a bungee cord so it stay put during the travel. Hi Jenn; I apologize in my tardiness for getting a response back to you. A 53' van is 52'8" long, 98" wide, and approximately 100" high(depending on make). These are all inside dimensions. 44,000 lbs. payload. My bid would be $3,815.00; not including loading time and unloading time. We would have to come up with something to pay the driver while he is waiting. You and the other dealers would be responsible for packing, loading, and unloading. As you consider my bid, you will also have to consider the additional cost of some sort of a storage unit that you guys can put everything until you order a truck from me. I can have a truck within 48 hours of order, but he cannot wait while you are out gathering your purchases from locations to load them. My suggestion to you; Contact Uship and see if they will allow you to contact me because of the unique situation that we have here. They might make you pay your fee, but it might worth it to talk with me directly. Thank You and GoodReport a Violation
