Question: Thanks for the request, make sure that you ask transporters for DOT/MC # and proof of Cargo Insurance before you accept any bids. Thanks Terry. (11/27/2008)

Response: Thanks so much for this info! I really appreciate it! (11/27/2008)

Response: Please go to (www.safersys.org/CompanySnapshot.aspx) you can then enter DOT/MC# to verify if transporter has the proper Legal Authority and the proper Insurance to transport your trailer for hire. Thanks Terry. (11/27/2008)

Response: Thank you! Thank you! Thank You! (11/28/2008)

Response: make sure for your protection that you use a transporter with MC#. Check out Uship's Community section and click on (trucker talk). Thanks Terry. (11/27/2008)

Response: Thanks again Terry. I truly appreciate getting informed advice. Autumn. (11/27/2008)

Response: Hi Autumn, please check out Uship's (trucker talk) and you may find out what you need. Anything over 10,000 lbs. transporting for hire has to have MC#. (11/27/2008)

Question: Thanks for your request, I am currently working on the west coast, but in a few days, may opt for some loads going to the midwest, near your trailer. If so, would be happy to bid your job. John/Valleyfleet (11/27/2008)

Response: Thanks please do! (11/27/2008)

Question: Hi, This is Shannon. Thanks for the bid request. However, before I enter a bid there are 2 concerns I would have that I would like to run past you and see if these are workable. #1) I am going that route here on my next trip but it will be in the mid to later part of Dec. Barring bad weather my delivery time would be sometime within a few days of the preferred timeframe you listed. I could not give you an exact day being that in winter the roads are unpredictable and cause delays but it would be within a few adys of what you wanted. Is there any problem with this? #2) My best rate for you would be in the 1400.00 range. Keep in mind your trailer actually weighs in at about 15k lbs. I have hauled these before but being that you are in college, as I was in the past, I can relate. Let me know what you think. (11/27/2008)

Response: Thank you for your questions and interest in this shipment. 1.) In response to your first question, I completely understand about the mountain passes and winter weather conditions. I was hoping / expecting that the shipment would be taken via the southern route along 40W so that the trip through Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho could be avoided. I think it is too treacherous and unpredictable in the winter for people and cargo. I am returning in my car to Oregon via the southern route to avoid these very winter conditions. My main issue with the time frame is that I am moving out of my apartment on Dec 1st. I can't really leave Missouri from Oregon with my 2 dogs until I know when my housing will arrive. Thus, I will require very clear and consistent communication to plan my trip in accordance with yours. 2.) I truly was hoping for something closer to $1200, but I am certainly open to a $1400 bid. Thanks so much. Autumn (11/27/2008)

Response: Trading the orthern route for a more soutern route will add more mountain roads and miles. Sort of a "6 of one half dozen of the other" type of situation. My biggest concern for the servicing of your shipment is more out of my route towards your shipment rather than after pick up is made. I have to go out east and then north before I get to your trailer. Certainly I can do the job, no doubt, but it's the timeframe and the need for an exact date for delivery. I have many routes to cover before I can get to you but at any rate I can guarantee she would be there within a few days of what you prefer. As for the price....well that is the best I can do. Keep in mind the weight, the miles towed, fuel costs in the regions involved and road conditions. (11/27/2008)

Response: I don't need to have an exact date per say, except when you get closer to the date when she will arrive so I can plan my trip accordingly. Basically, this will allow me to figure out when it is OK to depart from MO. Do you think it would arrive by the third week in December? I am most concerned about having to begin school the first week in January and not having a place to live and not having time to get settled in. I am sure you are more familiar with the routes than I am. I have driven the northern route many times, but only in the summer and in the fall. I have been advised that taking the southern route is better in the winter - less potential for white out conditions and black ice. Therefore, I only have Grants Pass to deal with. Thanks again! (11/27/2008)

Response: I can definately keep you fully updated as I go. I always do that via email every night anyway. My tentative date for delivery was about the third week of Dec. As for the drive....if you are just going to drive her in a car I would definately go the southern route you mentioned. In a loaded rigg such as mine, even in the winter, I always run north to 80 and then all the way across into ID and then come into OR from the I84 side. Just a couple of scary parts in WY and western ID but all doable during the daytime just the same. I use that route because of the hills in northern Cali and CO. I hate them. If you click on my name it will show you my profile and my DOT/MC numbers that are needed. The FMCSA site will give you all my ins info that is also needed. (11/27/2008)

Response: Thanks Shannon. I would definitely appreciate a bid!! You have such positive feedback and certainly have high accolades from your customers. I think I would feel very comfortable with someone that is familiar with this particular route and the winter driving conditions. Given the constant communication you provide, I think I could definitely time my trip accordingly with nightly updates. I would want to communicate over the next few weeks to figure out the approximate date I should leave. I am planning on visiting some friends as I make my way up California. Many will be leaving for the holidays, so I would like to figure out who will be around and when. Then I will know if I have places to stay if there is a delay in my Airstream delivery. Likewise, I will be in between housing between December 1st and the arrival of the Airstream, so I will have to let the other parties involved how long I will be staying. Thanks!! (11/27/2008)

Response: Thank you. I will definately enter my bid for you. In the bid details I will outline all my prospective dates and details. (11/27/2008)

Response: Sounds great! (11/28/2008)

Response: No problem. Keep in mind also that the same person you are talking to is the same person doing the job for you. I don't farm anything out. It's just me and my truck. (11/28/2008)

Response: Hi Shannon-
I just wanted to let you know that I was incorrect in stating that the trailer had plates on it. When I went today, there were no plates. I will be resolving the registration issues first thing on Monday. I just need to speak to the Oregon and Missouri DMV to see who I should register the trailer with. I am assuming Oregon because I have an Oregon license. Also, I spoke with the mechanic that last traveled and worked on the Airstream and he said as of last year it has new tires, bearings, drums, roaters and electric brake system. The bearings were repacked at that time. A total of 400 miles have been traveled since that work was done. The tires need a bit of air, but are certainly not flat. Do you think the bearings should be repacked for this trip? I also wanted to ask you if you have any experience in "landing" the trailer? Basically, backing it into the driveway and helping me level it. I am extremely interested in using you as my shipping provider! (11/28/2008)

Response: Thanks. I appreciate it. If the hubs have grease fittings on her she might just need a few squirts of grease in her. If she had not been driven much since they were re-done that might be all she needs. As for the plates.....you might not need to have that done until you go to Oregon. I have my own transport plate that I use for towing these so if you don't need to have it done right away for legal reasons I wouldn't worry about it. I can take care of everything else for you. The leveling is not a big deal. Once I get her backed into place I can drop the jacks and get her squared out no problem. If the older units don't have a level built in all I would need is just a decent level for the rooms. I can definately do that for you no problem. Just let me know when you are ready. Thanks again.
