Question: Would you be interested in an in-water delivery by a licensed captain? (6/24/2008)

Response: Yes--what is the time frame, costs, etc?? (6/24/2008)

Response: Let me take a look at the best and shortest route on my charts and get back to you on this. Looks like two days either way which would be less than $500 for the captain. You will need enough fuel for the trip.. CaptnG (6/24/2008)

Response: Boat is at Bennet Marine in East Hampton and would need to be put back in water--just need a little advance notice. Destination is Town Marina in Port Washington where it will be moored.
As for fuel,it should be possible to do most of the trip by sail--outboard is a 9.9 HP--doesn't consume much fuel, but isn't real fast. Please explain your plan. Would you do this singlehanded or need me along? Also, what are your qualifications, bonding, etc? (6/24/2008)

Response: Thanks for asking. USCG licensed captn with off shore experience. Please see directory for my specifics. 30+ years under sail. Own a 40 ' ketch, owed a 35 beneteau sloop 7 years and many 25' sloops. I come with the skills to comfortably hand strong winds alone and the experience to not put myself in that position to start with . Your vessel must be insured naming me as captain for the trip duration.
This would be a ( theoretical ) two day trip making 60nm per day with an overnight stop weather permitting. Would prefer to sail this vessel as well to it's destination with minimal outboard use. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. As a sailor I am very conservative with others vessels. Your vessel will arrive clean and orderly.. When are you thinking of moving this boat? CaptnG (6/24/2008)

Response: The bio sounds excellent-are there references I might contact? I'd like to move the boat ASAP -when are you available? What sort of insurance are you writing about?--my boat is on my homeowners policy and I have no idea how you would be named as captain on it-is this some special kind of policy? Who has it?-My concerns are how I'm protected for damage while the boat is in your hands and what you mention seems to be more about protecting you, or am I mistaken?
Anyway--can we move forward on this without endless emails? It would be best if we could contact each other by phone directly to work out the details but this system seems designed to create obstacles to that. How can we possibly proceed without speaking to each other?? Surely I wouldn't agree to put my boat in the hands of someone I cant talk to. The only necessary delay at my end is that the sails are at my house and I have to bring them back to the boat-Friday, June 27th is the earliest date for that. (6/25/2008)

Response: I agree on the endless e-mail issue. The system works this way. There is the basic idea that I am going to do what I say i will and you would be doing the same. There is a trust element that should be present to start with. I'll place a formal bid. if that is acceptable , you agree to the amount. The system gives you my personal information and it gives me yours. We call each other and work out details that haven't already been discussed or allowed in the official bid. I send you whatever additional references and contact phone numbers you may need to feel comfortable that your vessel is in the right hands allowing you an option to back out for what ever personal reason. The system is designed to protect everyone and have legal recourse. We just need to know the boat is insured no matter who is at the helm, that's it. We will make a contract with each other for the specific amount and the terms of delivery and in good faith we each do what we agree to. CaptnG (6/25/2008)

Question: ran out of letters LMAO... to answer the rest...I am on a delivery this weekend but can be there anytime after July 3rd. You will have plenty of opportunity via e-mail and phone, & prior to our written contract & delivery, to discuss your concerns and I encourage you to do so , both so that I know what is expected of me and for you, to feel comfortable with the process. I can place a bid for this , this evening if you still feel pretty good about it. (6/25/2008)

Response: I'd like to see your bid--the timing will be ok--the boatyard now says they're very busy and probably can't get the boat in the water, mast stepped, etc till after July 4th--maybe the &/11-7/14 time frame is a good target though I was hoping to do it sooner--I look forward to your bid. (6/25/2008)

Response: hi... checking in...plane reservations are involved for me to get to your boat ( need reasonable time to get them ) and haven't heard from you since I placed the bid. Captngjames (6/27/2008)

Response: I am interested in accepting your bid but must definitely see some documentation of your credentials and references as well as speak directly with your re details, at your earliest convenience. I would be very happy if the transfer can be done the weekend of July 11th. I await your reply. (7/1/2008)

Response: There is active feedback from my last delivery if you want to look at it. I am a licensed captain w/ experience , references and feedback which is all the detail I am allowed to give without being banned from this site, defeating the purpose of being here. I have a pending delivery on July 18th awaiting confirmation July 7th at 9 am possibly closing the window in delivering your boat. I need a two week plane reservation window to get to your boat. July 11th is now not an option as it was when I placed my first bid for this a few weeks ago . I appreciate your conservative position in moving your boat. It's a big deal and I would do the same however the ball is in your court as far as deciding what you want to do. I'm just the experienced captain providing the safe delivery. Sincerely, Captn G (7/6/2008)

Response: At this time I need to move my boat as close to July 11 as possible to avoid addtional storage fees. Hopefully other offers will work out for me, but if they dont, I would be interested in using your services--However, please remain aware that my concern about how to verify who you are, what your skills and experience are, are not answerable by anything solely on the Uship thing---for all anyone knows so far, it is just another internet scam, with false IDs, self written praise,etc--why don't they trust you to pay them their fee/comission yet expect me to trust them with a deposit without anyway to verify who they are or who you are? (7/7/2008)

Response: So far I am very happy with the service. i just received another job moving a vessel from NC to RI starting July 18th as i had mentioned earlier. My recent deliver of the boat from LA went smoothly and as you can tell by my feedback , they were very happy. I plan on making this good for everyone. Wish i could have done this for you. it was a very straight forward delivery and timely with my other trip. When you get more comfortable with this site maybe we can try this again. Hope you at least got a chance to read my feedback . Thanks at least for the opportunity to deliver your boat. CaptnGjames (7/8/2008)
