Question: Hello, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. Hawaii. We can assist you with the shipment of your motorcycle. 1st though, we need to know if there is a side car. Your bike will need to be "prepped" prior to shipping. "Prepping" is where the gas tank is drained/flushed and the battery cables disconnected with the battery cables and terminals taped to prevent ignition. All of this is per Coast Guard regulations. Also, the bike and side car, if applicable will need to be crated for it can be shipped "as is" do to liability. Shipping motorcycles between here in Hawaii and the mainland is one of our specialties. Let us know if you can have the "prepping" and crating done or if you need assistance with this along with the shipping. We are here to help. Mahalo (10/30/2009)

Response: Hi William,
Yes, it's a Ural Patrol with sidecar which is non-detachable due to the drive shaft. It's a 2-wheel drive bike&sidecar. Here's a link of the bike for your information: http://www.imz-ural.com/patrol/
I can probably have it drained, disconnect battery cables and crated. What are the specs or requirements, if any, for the crate? Can you provide a quote with your assistance in this and a quote without that assistance.
Mahalo. (10/30/2009)

Question: Hello, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. We are able to assist you with the shipment of your motorcycle. Your bike must be crated w/gas tank drained & flushed. The battery cables must be disconnected. The battery terminals/cables taped to prevent ignition. Our quote is based on a crate of 110x76x58 or smaller @ 1150 lbs or less. If a larger crate used, then additional charges would be applied accordingly. Our quote doesn't include the cost of crating and/or prepping. Let us know if you need assistance wwith this. We will submit a new quote accordingly. This quote is for pick up at a business with a dock and/or fork lift -i.e. a motorcycle dealership. This can not be picked up @ a residence. The reason being is that the crate will not fit on a truck's lift gate. Our quote is based on the information provided in your listing with you having youe shipment picked up @ The Port of Hilo on The Big Island here in Hawaii. Let us know if you have any questions. Mahalo (11/3/2009)

Response: Hi William, thank you for your response. As far as prepping the bike, I can take care of that. I will need to have a carpenter construct the crate.
Are there any gov./federal specifications, standards or any other shipping requirements on how the crate is to be built?
I understand the need for the loading dock and will locate one.
I was not able to access your website. Is it possible for you to provide me with your email address?
Thank you-Rudy (UralRider) (11/5/2009)

Response: Hi Rudy, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. There are no standards except for the gas tank being drained/flushed, the battery cables being disconnected and the cables & terminals taped to prevent ignition. This is a Coast Guard regulation. Contact us here on U-Ship if you have any other questions. Mahalo (11/7/2009)

Response: Hi William - is it possible to include other household and personal items in the crate with the bike? Items such as dinner ware, pots & pans, entertainment system, clothes, some tools, etc.
Obviously this would increase the weight.
Thanks/Rudy. (11/8/2009)

Response: Hi Rudy, thanks for your response. Sure, but insurance will not pay if anything gets damaged for they will considered it improper packing. Your LTL trucking would be higher do the additional weight.
It will still be DOT Classified 100 though "personal/household goods". Mahalo (11/9/2009)

Response: Hi William - does that mean the insurance will not pay for the bike as well? Should I crate all the other stuff seperately?
Thanks/Rudy. (11/9/2009)

Response: Hi Rudy, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. Thanks for your response. When shipping, if anything gets damaged, then it is determined by the transportation carrier if the shipment was properly packed. I can tell you that there is a 99% chance that if you put anything else in with the motorcycle that they will say that it was not properly packed for nothing should be in the crate with the bike. Every package whether it be a box, pallet, crate, etc. is automatically covered for $100 under IATA an international law. It still has to be properly. Insurance is an extra 75 cents per $100. You should check with your insurance agent to see if your motorcycle is covered being shipped. Some insurance companies will cover it prior to having us insure it for you to save money. Let us know the weight & dimensions of your personal/household goods also. Your trucking charges will be less shipping transporting them together versus shipping them separate. Mahalo (11/9/2009)

Response: Hi William - this is UralRider c/o uShip, aka Rudy. Sorry for the late reply. I was trying to come up with a total weight for the crate. The bike and household items will weigh around 1150 lbs. Please resubmit your quote/bid. Thank you very much.
Rudy. (11/18/2009)

Response: Hi Rudy, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. Thanks for your response. We have placed a new quote that includes the motorcycle and personal items in one crate. Our original quote was based on the total weight of 1150 lbs for the bike and crate combined. Our new quote is based the total weight of 1555 lbs or less for the bike, personal/household goods and crate combined. Please remember that the crate will have to be picked up at a business with a dock or fork lift and the destination is The Port of Hilo on The Big Island here in Hawaii where you will need to pick it up. Also, insurance might now cover any damages if there is any damage in transit with the personal/household goods in the crate with Ural Patrol Bike. Under international law, IATA, each package, crate or pallet is only covered for $100 if packed properly. Additional insurance can done but again it has to be packed properly (Cont'd) (11/18/2009)

Question: (Cont'd) Also, insurance might not (covered) cover any damages if there is any damage in transit with the personal/household goods in the crate with Ural Patrol Bike. Under international law, IATA, each package, crate or pallet is only covered for $100 if packed properly. Additional insurance can done but again it has to be packed properly. It is the insurance company's determination if a shipment is packed properly. Let us know if you have any questions.

Response: Thank you William for the information. How long can I keep the crate at your holding facility in Hilo? I will need a few days to find a place to live.
Thanks/Rudy. (11/18/2009)

Response: Hi Rudy, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. Thanks for your response. LTL trucking transit time to the west coast is approximately 7-10 days. We can have the crate held at the warehouse outside of Long Beach for a couple of weeks prior to it being loaded into the ocean container. Transit time between Long Beach and The Port of Honolulu is approximately 7 days. It will be unloaded @ The Port of Honolulu then sent via Young Brother's barge to The Port of Hilo. Total time to unload and ship via Young Brother's Barge is approximately 1 week. It can be held for at least 7 days at The Port of Hilo. Total time can be 42-45 days then. Might be able to hold in Long Beach and/or Hilo for another 7 days each if needed for a total of 56-59 days. Let me know what you needs are make this work for you. Mahalo (11/18/2009)

Question: Hello, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. Honolulu. Seeing if you still need assistance with your shipment. You may contact us here on U-Ship if you have any questions. Mahalo (11/26/2009)

Response: Hi William - this is Rudy aka UralRider. I am currently looking for a business/company who will let me use their loading dock and lift per your suggestion. I am also accepting bids from carpenters about the crate construction. Do I need to mark the crate with signage like THIS SIDE UP, arrows, list of contents and/or anything else?
Also, do you know of a business in Hilo that can transport the crate to my rental or house?
By the way, the duration of shipping (25 days?) should be sufficient for me to find a place.
Thanks so much,
Rudy. (11/26/2009)

Response: Hi Rudy, this is William Donohoe from The Shipping Shack, Inc. Honolulu. Thanks for your reply. The crate should be marked
"Fragile Handle with Care" and and "This side Up". I am currently in Orlando, FL visiting my sons for Thanksgiving. I will be returning to Hawaii late this Saturday. I can get you quote then to have the crate delivered. It will the 1st of the week though before I can get the quote. Also, please keep in mind that our quote is for the shipment of your crate all the way to Hawaii and not just on the mainland only. Mahalo (11/27/2009)
