Response: Hi Rich...I could try to give you an inventory, but let me try this first. The items I need to have moved are currently stored in an indoor climate controlled facility in a 10x10x15 space. The weight should be in the neighborhood of 5000 pounds. It is going to a 2nd floor apartment. Dates are extremely flexible - pickup any time in September or October with delivery sometime the end of October or first of November. Everything is already packed and ready to load onto the truck. The storage facility offers large 4 wheel dollies to transfer items and a freight elevator. If you still need a detailed inventory, let me know and I will try to provide it. thanks. (9/10/2009)

Response: Yes, the storage unit is pretty well filled up, so the dimensions I gave you should be pretty accurate to estimate a volume. The 5000 pounds estimate comes from the move to Florida with some extra weight added in for 3 pieces of furniture acquired since that move. We're trying to compare the cost of going the freight route vs. the expense of doing the rental truck self move. I've gotten a bid on the truck rental and tried to factor in all of the additional costs like crews to help, diesel fuel, etc. and I think doing it ourselves would come in between $1500 and $2500. Response: Hi Brian, thanks for your reply. I'm trying to see if there is any way that if I'm flexible on dates, a shipper option can be competitive with a do-it-yourself option. We're looking at a Penske truck rental, factoring in gas, food, motel and lost wages for unpaid time off work, and I've estimated something in the neighborhood of $1500. John can't take off from work before the 4th of November, so our dates are VERY flexible except for the last week of October when he will be on a business trip. Response: Thanks for the info Sue, rental trucks can be expensive. You probably want to figure about 5-6 miles a gallon for gas as that is what my truck gets so your problbly talking min. $600 for gas plus approx. $1,000 for the rental (not incl. dolly and pad rental. If I got 4-6 weeks from booking to pick up I could probably come in under the $2,000 with two men handling loading/ unloading. If only one man I could come in at $1,900. If interested let me know and I will submit a formal bid. We are fully legal with DOT & MC numbers and $25,000 replacement insurance. Best of luck, Brian (9/18/2009)

Response: Thanks, Brian, I'll speak with John this evening and we will double check my estimates for the rental option...I may have underestimated the costs for gas and such. I will email you again as soon as we've reviewed all of that. His dates are really flexible and 6+ weeks out is ideal for him.
