Additional Information:
Trailer is located in Bethel, Ohio (45106) which is just southeast of Cincinnati and it is going to South Holland, Illinois (60473 - just south of Chicago) - about 300 miles. It is roadworthy but not current on tags so it needs to be trailered (I'm working on the registration but I don't think it will be titled/registered in Illinois for another couple of weeks). I'm flexible on pick up and drop off but I have to coordinate with the person storing the trailer in Bethel. I am looking to do this for $200 as someone's backhaul but I will entertain all bids, especially as we get closer to the end of the month. I can go get this for $100 in gas and 12 hours of my time but I'd like to avoid all the driving if possible. Also, the trailer will be filled with equipment (properly secured) so there is no real room to ship anything in the trailer (sorry). Thanks, Jonathan River (TeamRio).
Questions for this shipment:
Question:
Sir, wht exactly do you mean backhaul? Doesnt the truck and driver deserve the same rate one direction that he does the other? Fuel is the same both directions as well. Backhaul is a term in the trucking industry for a load returning to origin. Nothing more. We can move this for you for 325. Trailered if need be. Pelase advise. 525 Transport Team (11/14/2007)
Response:
525Transport: Thanks for your quick response to my listing. The definition I have for backhaul from Encarta is as follows (and this has always been my understanding) - back·haul(noun)Definition: "Return trip of a freight carrier: the return trip of a freight or cargo vehicle after it has delivered its load. Rates of carriage on such trips are often cheaper since the use of the vehicle has been paid for by the outward shipper." Not to be an a** about it but it is a "return trip" not a "load returning to origin" and, yes, the truck and driver do deserve the same rate in the return direction but, as we both know, you don't always get the same rate coming and going due to a variety of factors. Capitalism is based on a free market economy and in the transport business you get what people are willing to pay you for your services and I am hoping to find someone who would rather take this job for $200 than deadhead back. You've got my vote if nobody steps forward for less than $325. Teamrio. (11/14/2007)
Response:
I understand that definition as well. However, as you know, the shipping community as a whole has changed in the past ten years. If the rate was already paid for by load 1, then we would have to charge empty miles. This used to be common practice, however, with fuel prices SKYROCKETING, and the industry being as cut throat as it is, we can and havent been able to charge for those miles. It has since eliminated the std def of backhaul a number of years back. Let us know if we can assist. As always, check with us before accepting a bid, as we may not have a truck in your area at the time. thanks again. Todd 525 Transport Team (11/14/2007)
Question:
get your self a second ID, I have to use another one to ship my stuff I sell on ebay.. I agree with you and I never have any luck or positive comments when I try and ship with my transit ID.. just make another ID with zero feedback you wont get those responses and your trailer will move really quickly.. Id do it for you if I was going that way...Good Luck CRL transit (11/15/2007)
Question:
jonathan, will be pulling your trailer and have a transporter plate as all of us legal carriers do. (11/17/2007)
Response:
Mike- Sorry, I didn't see your answer to my question - I'll let you know what happens with my pick up window coordination as soon as I hear from the guy storing the trailer. BTW, good feedback! Thanks, JR. (11/17/2007)
Response:
jonathan my bid does expire mon after 100 pm, as i will be on way back from fl and need to know if im getting trailer. no way to check mail on the road. if i dont hear from you ill assume you didnt accept bid and keep trucking back to n. indiana. thanks... (11/18/2007)
