12 adult sheep (11 ewes, one ram) (plus one LGD)

Response: The land is not ready for sheep yet! We will start clearing the land the 2nd week in July, but can't move the sheep till all clearing and fencing are done AND there's a well and tank. The well depends on other plans, so we can't do it as fast as we want. So, we do NOT yet know exactly when the land will be ready for them, but thought it was smart to start finding out in advance who does this route who might help us get everyone moved. I am thinking end of August or early September is realistic, will you be available in that time frame? How many feedbacks do you have? Thanks! Laurie & Warren (7/4/2009)

Response: ADDITION/correction to initial plans: I have two size 700 Vari-kennels, one for the ram (not prepared to produce out-of-season lambs), one for the LGD (we just confirmed we will still be getting her). The sheep have been around dogs, but have not had their own dog. The dogs were always in the next pasture. I am getting their LGD the day before the sheep transport, and have been advised by HER breeder to have her travel crated, but WITH the sheep. (If they all ride together, by the time they arrive in their new home, the sheep should be a little used to the dog, and the dog won't stay anywhere unless she has sheep to stay WITH). Anyway, that means we need room for two size 700 old-fashioned Vari-Kennels in the trailer with the ewes and still have enough space for 11 ewes. One carrier for the ram, one for the dog. I understand that an additional animal and two carriers within the trailer are more work and mean more expense, but it seems the best way. (7/5/2009)

Response: Sorry, trying to save space, a LGD is a Livestock Guardian Dog, one raised with sheep who will protect the sheep in their new home. (Our lot is where the coyotes were living till we started to clear it.) Dog will be in a 700 Vari-kennel for the trip, but has to ride in the trailer with the sheep. (7/13/2009)

Response: Thanks, I didn't understand how this sytem worked, and it will be at least 4 weeks till I will know WHEN we might have water to the land. So I will post again closer to the time, when I at least have a date the well is supposed to be drilled. (7/14/2009)
